NYX Haul!

This is my first makeup post, and since I love NYX so much and yesterday I went to ULTA and bought nothing but NYX stuff, I thought it’d be a good time to do a makeup post just for fun. 🙂

So these are my favorite things to use from NYX (my foundation and blush are from other brands). Once I started using NYX, I got hooked instantly.

Lip liner pencil crayon. I really love the color and it goes on very smoothly, and pairs well with the lip color I’ll show next. This has a very creamy feel to it and not at all drying!

NYX Lingerie Liquid Lipstick in Baby Doll. The color is perfect for my skin tone and pairs well with the brown lip liner. It’s matte but not drying (for me anyway).

NYX eyeshadow in Betrayal and Dance the TidesI looooove the eyeshadows because they’re matte and stay on really well. I use the lighter one for my whole eyelid and the darker one for the crease.

Cheek Contour Duo Palette. This is the best contour kit I’ve tried, and I really love it. I use the cheek/nose contour very lightly and I use the highlighter powder the most on my nose, upper cheekbones and on my chin.

Et voilà! I wear my makeup really bold (day or night), so this is my everyday look. I love the brown/bronzy look personally, so I feel comfortable with this as my go-to look that I feel compliments me.

Hope you enjoyed and are having a lovely day!

Wintry Skies N’ Earthquakes

Let me start off by saying, last night (or early this morning, as in midnight/1 a.m. hour) was probably the weirdest night ever. Literally couldn’t sleep until well after 2 a.m., because my sleep kept being interrupted by…not dogs barking, not a car alarm…but earthquakes.

Yep, earthquakes. Here in good ol’ Central California, we very rarely feel them only because of our placement away from major fault lines, but it’s not unheard of to feel them if wherever the epicenter is has a good-sized magnitude. The epicenter was apparently near the California-Nevada borderline, but it was felt clearly here. Totally freaked me out, things hanging on the ceiling were swaying…not cool!

Photography time! I’m not a fan of the cold, but I’ve always admired how crisp and blue the sky seems to be in the winter months. Doesn’t the sky just look different when it’s winter? Or, maybe I’m imagining it. I took the opportunity this morning to go out into my front yard and snap some pretty winter photos of the bare branches that are beautiful in their own way…

The winter months feel like they have an eerie stillness to them, which is alluring to me. I especially like to go outside at night (wrapped in a blanket, of course) and gaze up at Orion’s Belt, my favorite winter constellation. I’d really be bored without my Sky Guide app, which entertains me to no end!

Speaking of SPACE STUFF…

My outfit-of-the-day totally ties into this mention of space. I’m donning one of my favorite skirts, which I bought very inexpensively on Amazon!

Me, totally not even looking at the camera…

I loooooooove this skirt. Makes me feel like a space queen or something. I’ve always loved galaxy skirts, and I got this one for around $8 or so through Amazon. Paired with a pale pink sweater and black boots, it has a very funky vibe that I like!

Have a great day everyone! Don’t forget to smile!

Finally Christmas!

Merry Christmas, everyone! I hope you all had a joyous day. I had a really great Christmas filled with food, family and fun. Always been my favorite day out of the year. 🙂

I took some outfit photos before anyone showed up…

I’m super short…in some of my pictures I look tall just because of how I set up my phone to take the picture, but I’m really not and this picture shows it, LOL.

Yeah, I kept my socks and slippers on the entire day. Since Christmas was held at my place and I didn’t go anywhere all day, I figured I’d stay comfortable and didn’t need actual shoes. My outfit was complete with fuzzy slippers and gingerbread man “Bite Me” socks. My family is pretty used to my out-there fashion choices so I’m sure it didn’t phase them. 😉

My sweater is actually a very old sweater I’ve had since high school. It’s a gorgeous green and one of my all-time favorites. I paired it with a simple black skirt, and the red belt is a hand-me-down from my mom that she wore in the 80’s.

I wore one of my handmade statement rings, of course. 🙂

Just a few snapshots of some of the gifts I received…Rudolph mints, chocolate, accessories, a Star Wars book and Hello Kitty slippers…doesn’t matter how old I get, I’ll always love Hello Kitty, haha.

I hope everyone had a fantastic day and is ready for the upcoming New Year!

Tights Season

I’ve gotten back into wearing knee-highs (well, these are tights, but give the illusion of being knee-highs!). Tights like these are fun and add some sass to any outfit, and I have two pairs that I really like. One would be the above, which have little black hearts dotted along the top. 🙂

The lighting outside was so bad this morning. :/ Still! I managed to get a somewhat decent picture of my beloved cat tights.  I haven’t worn ’em since last winter, so I was all-too happy to bring them out again.

I made that little Santa ring. It can be found on my Etsy shop. 🙂

It’s cold today, but not as cold as it has been the past few days. Also, I’m going to go see Rogue One today in a few hours and I’m highly looking forward to it! I’m such a Star Wars junkie.

I hope everyone’s enjoying these few days left leading up to Christmas. Time has flown this past year, it feels like!

Just Be You

I was feeling adventurous yesterday and did a movie-inspired makeup look. I channeled my inner Christina Ricci as Layla from Buffalo ’66, and I must say, I really liked how it turned out!

That leads me into this topic: being ourselves! Being confident through self-expression and not being afraid to take risks (whether it be trying a bright eyeshadow or taking on a new job). Confidence is not something we can just tell ourselves we will have, and wake up the next day with it. It’s a loooong process and a journey…not exactly a destination, because we don’t just get there and stay there. There are peaks and valleys, as I like to call them. Things happen that can tear down our confidence, but your own strength is revealed when you can rise from it and regain the confidence built.

This canvas hangs on my wall as an everyday reminder. Sometimes, we can be perfectly happy with ourselves, but someone else can kick a dent in our self-confidence. I used to be really bad at that – allowing the negative opinions of others to affect how I viewed myself. I learned though, that we have control over whether people have that kind of power over our confidence. It’s way easier said than done, yes, and it takes tons of practice, but it gets easier over time to control external influences from dampening our self-confidence. 🙂

Once you build your own solid foundation of confidence, life feels so much better. I know I still have much to learn along the way, but I’m happy with how far I’ve come just within the past year. There will always be tests, but it can make you stronger.

Outfit post time! There’s a huge rain storm that has moved in, so I took advantage of it with a few outfit shots underneath an umbrella, haha. The bright pink created a really neat pink hue that I’m totally digging…

So this is how my hair would look if I had a pink/brown ombre thing going on?!? 😀

Anyway, hopefully this post helps anyone out there who may struggle with self-confidence. Just know that you can rise above, and confidence is a journey. No one is perfect, but our perceived flaws and whatever shortcomings we may think we have are things that we can learn to appreciate because it makes us who we are, and we’re all beautiful. 🙂

Have an awesome day!

December Fun

Have I mentioned how much I love pink? 😀 A pink and purple outfit I put together (my favorite color combination).

And pink nails to boot. Not really a festive holiday color for the season, but it’s just so hard to part from pink. For my next nail color, I’ll probably go neutral, like a sparkly beige.

Now for the holiday fun! My Christmas tree is completely decorated, and as you can see, I made sure to include a Star Wars ornament. Queen Amidala will forever be my favorite Star Wars character, mostly because I’m in love with her otherworldy hairstyles and gowns. It gives the tree a quirky touch to boot!

I’ve always admired DIY crafts I see on Pinterest and such, so I finally decided to give it a go. For a long time, I’ve wanted a faux deer head sculpture with roses on the antlers. I managed to find a gold deer sculpture at Michael’s on sale for $20, and bought some roses to glue onto the antlers. Voilà! I absolutely love how it turned out!

While I was at Michael’s, I bought some really pretty floral garland that I ended up draping over my cabinet in my bathroom, and that’s another thing I’ve wanted to try for awhile – interior decorating! It gives my bathroom a fresh, feminine look that I love.

And last but not least, I created a new quirky ring for myself:  a flower-crown-wearing Twiggy ring framed with rhinestones.  I am SO ready for the next Marilyn Manson concert, can’t you tell?  😉

I can now check off a few DIY projects from my list! I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season and doing fun stuff. 🙂

Outfits of the Week…

This week flew by, but I managed to capture some photos of my outfits and shenanigans during this very cold and rainy week!

First off, I was able to sit outside on Tuesday afternoon and truly enjoy the beautiful foliage and cloudy weather before the rain started in last night. This is my favorite time of year seeing all the gorgeous colors of the leaves!

I needed a professional outfit on Monday and went with thisssssss! I really like how the outfit turned out, and I went with a more conservative purse rather than my usual pink one with a gigantic sequin bow on it. I never know how to look professional so I always end up throwing a pearl necklace on to make it look a little more sharp.

Ahhh, scarves. I love them, but they tend to get in the way with my hair, haha. Still, I wore a simple plaid scarf yesterday to jazz up my outfit (and also to stay warm). 😛

It’s cold and rainy outside today, and you’d think I’d learn my lesson and wear warmer opaque tights, but as you can see, I didn’t. Even so, I wore my big, comfy red sweater with a blouse underneath and my polka dot navy blue skirt!

Last but not least, last night I indulged in these delectable, ultra-cute macarons! These were lavender and lemon flavored. Soooo delicious!

That’s all folks! Hope everyone is having a splendid week!
