Here Comes the Sun

Happy Monday, world! ❀

On Saturday night, I perused through my local Claire’s and found a sale going on for hair accessories, so needless to say, I couldn’t pass through without buying something. I’ve always wanted a black-and-red-checkered hair bow, because it has such a rockabilly vibe to it. Finally found one, and I’m in love with it! I have a feeling it’s going to become one of my go-to hair bows now. πŸ˜›

I got my nails re-done. FINALLY. I have a bad habit of thinking, I’ll get them re-done tomorrow…okay the next day…wait, I’ll go next week!Β They were super grown out and it didn’t look so good, lol! I love these; they’re a nice neutral color, which I typically prefer for my nail shape and length.

I usually take my blog photos in the morning, but I ended up taking photos in the evening, right before I went for a walk. The late evening sun made for some interesting lighting concepts! I like it.

The green skirt I’ve had for awhile and bought at Forever 21, and the blouse is a hand-me-down from my mom.

So I stopped by this new place called Rita’s. They serve all kinds of things: Italian shaved ice, frozen custard, etc! It was reeeeally good, and I bought the Juicy Pear flavored Italian shaved ice. It reminded me of Honeydew, which is a favorite flavor of mine.

And then, for a nice walk. It might look like I live out in the middle of nowhere, and in a way, I kind of do; there’s about half-a-million people here, but it’s right in the middle of California. So it’s like a big city in the middle of nowhere, with the coast about 2 or 3 hours away. πŸ™‚ I like walking at this park because it gets me away from the cityscape for a short while.

I love the pink and purple shades of the clouds over the Sierra Nevada mountains last night. There’s a chance of rain this week and I really hope it rains, because I miss it! It’s almost always sunny here.

Capture the beauty that’s all around you. ❀

Red Bows, Unicorns, & Arts in Corrections

Hello! πŸ™‚

The weekend is upon us, and another week is done! I was super busy this week, but got a lot accomplished and some cool things occurred; I bought my ticket to go see Marilyn Manson in Oakland in October! ❀ This will be my second time seeing him. I discovered something else really cool, but I’ll save the best for last. πŸ˜‰

For today’s outfit, I aimed to just be comfortable! It’s hot. πŸ˜› I added a red bow for the cute factor, and to jazz it up a bit.

For additional cuteness, why not bring in a unicorn?! This is one of my favorite rings! I just love cute things, as you can see. ❀

So! This past week, I was researching what I can do to utilize my BFA degree. I’ve worked as a freelance graphic designer before, while also working in a legal environment, but I wanted to see what else is out there. I found out that being an art instructor is one of the things you can do with such a degree.

I discovered the Arts Council in the city I live in, which hosts the Art Hops and such which are always fun to go to. However, one of their programs caught my attention immediately: Arts in Corrections.

For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to work with inmates. I think it’s because of my naturally caring, empathetic nature and the strong desire to help others. What would be better for me than to be able to merge my passion for art with my desire to work with inmates?! I didn’t realize such a job existed, and by the end of the video, I was in tears. This is a job I would be passionate about, and they work primarily with inmates at Valley State Prison here in Central California.

To see inmates be able to express themselves in a healthy way that inspires self-enrichment and growth is a beautiful thing. I’ve always enjoyed seeing artwork done by inmates, and I notice that a common theme in their art (at least one’s I’ve seen) are birds in cages. I find it fascinating to see the imagery they use in their art to express themselves.

I’ve reached out to the Arts Council, so we’ll see how it goes! Either way, even if I’m unable to work for Arts in Corrections, I’d still love to find a way to support the program in any capacity.

That’s about all, folks! I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend. πŸ™‚ Take care, smile, be happy, and I’ll see you next time! ❀

Wanderlust: a strong desire to travel.

I guess lately, I’ve been bitten by the bug of dreaming about lands afar. Maybe it’s because I tend to do the same routine every day–although, I never seem to get bored. I’m always going for walks, writing, doing art in some kind of form, discovering new and old music alike, and otherwise keeping my mind fresh! Road trips do happen at random, from time-to-time. Growing up in a sort-of small city in central California, where there’s a sense of sameness in a way, contributed in the journey of discovering my own fashion sense and being a dreamer in general. πŸ™‚

I’ve been looking at photos and reading about other cultures, so I’ve had my head in the clouds, apart from doing my daily necessities, like working and what not. Today’s outfit has an Italian vibe in my opinion, and I didn’t plan for it, it just happened! Haha! πŸ˜‰

It must be the red and white colors, or the style of the blouse. It makes me want to watch old Italian movies from the 1960’s, or wander aimlessly through a lush, green vineyard in the Italian countryside.

Love this little notebook! I’ve been working on a new fiction story (something I enjoy as a hobby, and I’ve written two previously in paperback), so this is great for scribbling down ideas, which I’m notorious for doing at random.

Lastly, last night I had the pleasure of visiting the Mormon temple in my city, and I went inside for a short while, but decided to go outside and take pictures instead. It was truly gorgeous! ❀

I hope everyone is enjoying their mid-week!

Happy Wednesday! ❀

Bubblegum Bliss

Happy Monday, world! ❀

What a day it’s already been. I went somewhere to fill out an application, and there was a short math and spelling section on it. Spelling is no trouble for me, but the math part?

Oh. My. God.

I’ve never realized how truly horrible I am at math. The sad part is, this was basic math like percentages, decimals, and the like. For me, it’s tremendously difficult. My brain is just not wired to easily understand numbers, I guess. Super embarrassing! Oh well; life goes on.

My outfit reminds me of bubblegum, and when I hear the word ‘bubblegum’, I think of Marina and the Diamonds, and her songΒ “Bubblegum Bitch.” Catchy song, hilarious title, but I chose to slightly alter the blog post title in reference to it. πŸ˜‰

I love the overall, super girly vibe this outfit has going on! Pink and purple are two colors I’ve loved since I was a kid, and it looks like nothing’s changed in that regard. I couldn’t pass up my go-to, handmade daisy headband!

Love these lavender ballet flats I bought at H&M last year. They were on sale at the time, so I got them very inexpensively.

This shirt is probably one of my favorite tops, ever. I also have one in mint green, and I bought them both at Forever 21. I love the zig-zag lines on the shoulders! It’s so interesting, and not something I typically see.

I hope your week is starting off wonderfully! Here’s a photo from Artful Blogging magazine I took last night, while I was reading at Barnes & Noble.

Have a lovely day! ❀

Happy Friday, everyone! How was your week? Hopefully it was good. πŸ™‚

So, I tried my hand at Spanish cuisine as I mentioned in my last post, and my patatas bravas turned out GREAT! It really wasn’t difficult at all, and I made minimal error (I added grated garlic and it burned, so I just removed the garlic altogether and replaced it with garlic pepper seasoning instead πŸ˜› ). I also baked it, rather than frying it as it’s traditionally done. This is a staple appetizer in Spain from what I researched, and it’s something I’ll make again in the future, probably for Thanksgiving and Christmas dinner as a new tradition and as my own contributing dish.

Periwinkle is one of those colors I just NEVER SEE. By never seeing it, I mean in regards to clothing. It’s one of those unusual, atypical colors that is really just so beautiful! I literally found this simple cotton shirt buried in one of my dresser drawers, and I don’t even know where I got it at.

My lavender skirt paired exceptionally well with it, fittingly enough! I love when that happens. Also, I topped it off with a flower headband – handmade, by me. Overall, it’s a very feminine, romantic-like outfit, in my opinion. ❀

Yesterday evening, I had the pleasure of taking a walk because the temperature was much cooler than it’s been in awhile. The wildfires are still going strong, especially north of the valley, as you can see from the photo. It made for a rather alluring sunset, though!

I love going for walks. I typically always go alone, which I prefer, honestly. I’m highly introverted and just need that time to myself to soak in nature and enjoy a nice sunset. I love spending time with friends, don’t get me wrong, but as an introvert, I just need solitude at times. ❀

I remember a few weeks ago while I was walking, a gentleman stopped and asked me, “Why are you alone?” Well…why not??? πŸ˜› I actually do a lot of things alone, and I love it. I’m almost always going to coffee shops alone, going for walks alone, occasionally I go to dinner alone, and I go to the movies from time to time alone. I legitimately enjoy it! Everyone’s different though, right? πŸ˜‰

Enjoy your weekend! ❀

Mustard & Mint

Hello, friends!

Another week begins, and I hope everyone had a rejuvenating and fun weekend. ❀ I spent time with friends, family, and really just took it easy.

For today’s outfit, I went for an interesting color combination – a mustard and mint look? Food-wise, doesn’t sound appetizing at all! Hahaha…

It’s BRIGHT, lol…

I LOVE this flower hairpin I bought at Forever 21 awhile back! It adds a fun, free-spirit vibe to any outfit and is perfect for summertime. Guess I felt like dressing super bright today. πŸ˜‰

Now as I mentioned a few posts ago, I bought those LED candles to put in my backyard to create a nice ambiance…and they turned out really neat! I managed to get decent photos of it in the dark…

These things are really pretty and have a natural-looking flame effect, to where the light flickers like a real candle would! It’s awesome. It was all great until it started to attract BUGS. That was the end for me and I took the candles inside…however! They are just as enchanting indoors for your room, or wherever you choose to put them. πŸ™‚ You can find them easily on Amazon!

I hope everyone has a great Monday! ❀

Golden Hues

Happy Saturday, folks!

It’s another great day, and I’m excited that my Jutti flats arrived in the mail yesterday! It was lightning-fast shipping, to say the least. They came all the way from India, and I only ordered them last week on Ebay! I included photos below… of course. πŸ™‚

I’ve been digging around some of my old jewelry boxes and discovered a few little rings I used to wear as a child. I can’t believe how cute they are, and they really do add something in a delicate, cute way. ❀

The shoes are waaaaay prettier in person and went beyond my expectations! They are very, very sparkly, especially when the sun hits them. I assumed the bottoms of the shoe would just be a thin, flat material, but they actually have a sporty grip so you’re not likely to slip! Β I was pleasantly surprised by this feature.

Iced Mocha from Starbucks…my favorite drink…buy me this and I am happy. πŸ˜€

I’m taking it easy this weekend from artistic endeavors! I did a drawing for someone, then finished up a craft project I was paid for, so I can finally take a deep breath and relax (for now). πŸ˜›

I hope everyone enjoys their weekend! ❀

Awhile ago, I saw this cute photo (pictured above) on Pinterest and wanted to emulate the outfit in the future…well, the day has arrived!

The patterns are flipped, but same concept! πŸ˜‰ I went with pattern-mixing again, because it’s fun and unusual. The colors remind me of candy, to boot.

It probably goes without saying that I reeeeeally love hair barrettes. They’re cute and add something to any hairstyle! This gold one I’m wearing is one I’ve had for a long time – so long that I can’t even remember where I got it. It’s one of those barrettes that goes with anything.

I’m hiding…from no one, apparently?

Really love this outfit! Definitely has that summer look to it.

I hope everyone is enjoying their (ideally) carefree summer days! I am for sure, and I’m looking forward to getting some LED candles to put in my backyard to line along part of the fence (they’re fake candles, so no fire concerns) to create a nice ambiance whilst sitting in my backyard at night. I like being able to enjoy summer nights underneath the huge tree in my backyard. Not sure how well they will turn out in photos, but I’ll try! ❀

Happy Thursday! πŸ˜€

Strawberry Fields

Hello there! πŸ™‚

I’d like to take a moment to CELEBRATE. My friend unexpectedly gave me a cute little tripod for my phone! This means an easier way to take photos (it’s so hard to take photos by yourself without a tripod of some sort!) πŸ˜›

So…it’s summer of course, and what better way to celebrate than with fruit? Not just eating it, but also wearing it. I haven’t worn this skirt in a looooong time…I finally brought it out again and made it more interesting by pattern-mixing!

This skirt is cute, but tricky as to what to pair it with. I didn’t want a solid colored top, so I went with polka dots and a black bow belt. Somehow, it really all works together, in my opinion!

There was no way I could wear this outfit without my strawberry hair clip, of course! I’ve noticed I’ve been scrambling for new outfit ideas as of lately, so I’ve been getting super creative so my outfits look more fresh and different.

This has nothing to do with anything, but I wanted to post a photo of the newest creation in my Etsy shop! I went all out this time and slathered the ring with all sorts of gems and little cute things. ❀

I hope everyone is having a happy Sunday!

Jutti Flats!

Since I was a kid, I have always had a fascination withΒ Jutti flats. I’m really drawn to the traditional ones! From Wikipedia:

“TheΒ juttiΒ (Punjabi:Β ΰ¨œΰ©ΰ©±ΰ¨€ΰ©€) orΒ Punjabi JuttiΒ (Punjabi:Β ΰ¨ͺΰ©°ΰ¨œΰ¨Ύΰ¨¬ΰ©€ ΰ¨œΰ©ΰ©±ΰ¨€ΰ©€) is a type of footwear common in North India and neighboring regions.”

There’s just something about these shoes that I can’t get enough of. First off, I love flats in general, but these have such a princess-like vibe to them, and the colors and embroidery are just amazing. I’ve wanted to buy a pair of traditional ones for a long time, and I found some on Ebay for $20!!

I know I’m all about colors, but for my first pair, I wanted ones that would go with pretty much anything I wear, so I went with gold. Next time, I’m going to buy pink ones, most likely. These are being shipped to me from India, from an online Indian shoe store on Ebay and they shipped them out in less than 24 hours! Very fast. I’m super excited and will most definitely do a blog post on them when they arrive. ❀

Happy Friday! πŸ™‚
