Finite

IMG_2885

Hello everyone. 🙂

Not my typical blog post, but fashion and fun isn’t on my mind at this moment; rather, my focus is on life and how finite it is.

This weekend, my brother-in-law died unexpectedly. It came out of nowhere. He was on a hiking trip and suddenly lost consciousness. I’ve never lost anyone close to me, and he was in my life for 23 years, so it’s quite a long time to have known someone.

I just wanted to share that all we have is today. This moment. This second. Anything beyond isn’t guaranteed. It’s strange how deeply I understand this now, more than ever.

I’m writing this from my favorite coffee shop, Yellow Mug, which ironically is the last place I saw him alive. I feel that I need to find a silver lining somehow, and so I’ve really stopped to think of life itself and the little things we can do to make it a happier one. This is my personal list I came up with:

  • Find something each day that makes you happy, no matter how small it is. Like right now, this iced mocha I’m drinking, and how I’m going to do some journaling after I post this, makes me happy.
  • Take care of yourself. Mentally, physically, spiritually.
  • Lend a helping hand. I’m part of the LDS Just Serve committee at my church, and we’re planning on hosting a dinner at Valley Children’s Hospital in the months to come, along with other service projects. I have a deep desire now to partake in this and make it happen.
  • Keep those who care about you close and appreciate them.
  • Let go of those who don’t. This one is particularly hard for me. I’m admittedly, very naïve to a fault at times, and don’t realize until much later that my heart and feelings are just being played with.

I have to find some sort of positive in this, therefore I’m going to move forward with my life with this little mental checklist in mind. I hope it may have helped any readers out there, to inspire you to live a life that is best for you while we are still here on earth. ♥

See you next time…

I Tried My First Poke Bowl…

IMG_2776

Hi!

Poke bowl, poke bowl…I have heard so much about these things. I’ve heard about it from co-workers, to seeing new food places suddenly pop up everywhere where I live, and it all seems to be about poke. I had NO idea what it was, to be honest…

But a friend of mine asked me earlier this week if I wanted to go with her to have a poke bowl at a place called Butterfish – her treat. I agreed, and I was overall pretty happy with it! It was so filling, though. I couldn’t even finish a small bowl. It felt so unusual eating a bowl of what basically is sushi, sans the seaweed!!!

So, I have tried it. Funny enough, my outfit I’m about to show you matches the aforementioned poke bowl itself…

Which was not planned, by the way…

IMG_2781

I really, really love this outfit. The blouse is a hand-me-down from my mom, so I’m not sure how old it is. It’s very comfortable and casual, though!

I think this is my favorite headband, ever. It’s just so COLORFUL!!! It adds a pop of color to the otherwise neutral-tone outfit. 🙂

Lastly, the same friend who took me for the poke bowl, we ended up going to Teazer World Tea Market. I hadn’t been in soooooo long, but I knew exactly what I wanted there.

I wanted the Tiger Spice Chai, which is amaaaaazing. I’m not a tea person, but this drink…oh my goodness. It’s definitely my favorite. It has that cinnamon-like taste to it. I was in heaven drinking this thing!!! ♥♥♥ Doesn’t it look delicious?

So yes, friends…this week was all about trying new food and being reacquainted with old tea drinks from the past.

I hope you all enjoyed your week! See ya!

Ghost and Glitter

IMG_2737

Helloooooooooooooo!!!

This is going to be a long blog post, so sit back, grab something to eat or drink (or both) and enjoy! I have so much to share. ♥

First off, let me tell you a bit about my totally random, new Ghost shirt:

IMG_2707

I can’t even count how many confused stares this shirt received when I wore it on Saturday. I was out and about, at Starbucks and later on went to get some Indian food take-out, and a few people would just stare at the shirt blankly, looking mildly confused. So what I’m saying is, the shirt was a success!

It says Rats! by the way, but my hair covers that. This is referencing their new hit single, called Rats:

And the photo on my shirt is referencing the lead singer’s newest ensemble:

But basically, my outfit is a tad confusing in general because you have the dainty crochet collar, a vintage-looking brooch, a happy red rose headband and then this scary cardinal priest thrown into the mix.

I’m loving my eyeshadow I’ve been using…just a regular brown with a shimmery copper brown. Love love love! ♥

IMG_2754

For today’s outfit, it kind of has mermaid vibes with all the sequins going on, and the color palette. ♥

This is a cardigan I bought when I was in high school! I remember wearing it many times, close to when I was about to graduate my senior year. Memories! ♥

IMG_2771

I’d like to take a moment to talk about my new glitter sensory bottle I purchased from my friend Vee, who makes them and sells them!

The idea behind it is that they help you calm down if you feel stressed or are experiencing any anxiety. You just shake it around and it’s a whirlwind of magical glitter! Can’t go wrong with that, no?

It’s basically a bottle of magic! I keep it in my purse and if I by chance feel overwhelmed by anything at the moment, or just need a break of focus, I take it out and give it a shake.

If you’re interested in seeing more of the sensory bottles she makes, check out her Instagram here!

I hope you enjoyed this fun post! Have a great day! ♥

Rockin’ Retro

IMG_2640

Behold, a STICK!!!

Hi! I bring a double outfit post today, so sit back and enjoy! It was a fun-filled weekend and I wore two outfits I really loved and wanted to share. Yay!

IMG_2630

A lovely white frock adorned with little red hearts! I wore this on Valentine’s Day, and haven’t worn it since. No idea why I haven’t? I’ve been missing out, because this dress is awesome!!!

IMG_2628

The lace sleeves are actually separate. I wore a lace top underneath to give it a more feminine look.

IMG_2631

IMG_2633

DANG IT, WIND!!!!!!!!!!

IMG_2637

IMG_2635

This was my Friday outfit. I went for coffee with a friend that night and we chatted and caught up on life. It was a perfect, warm evening to boot. 🙂

IMG_2664

Here’s the second outfit! I wore this on Sunday, and this was another super retro look, paired with the bow. ❤ (Also, I love my crooked bangs, by the way).

IMG_2653

I look like I’m up to something…but what?

IMG_2652

This lace trim collar is detachable. My sister made it for me, and I love it! Instant vintage vibes. 🙂

IMG_2659

IMG_2660

IMG_2662

My beat up, old shoes…

IMG_2670 (1)

Aw, look at those cracks. What’s funny is that I have so many brand new shoes I love to wear (like the other black ones pictured in the first outfit), but every now and then, I still bring out these old-timey shoes because I just love them for some reason.

I randomly painted some rocks, too…

IMG_2679

The top one looks like a sugar cookie, doesn’t it? I don’t recommend taking a bite. 😉

These are cute decorations for my backyard. I loooove how they turned out. I’ve wanted to paint a few rocks for awhile now, and glad I finally did!

In a nutshell, my weekend was fabulous! I went to a small craft fair on Saturday evening to see my friend who had her own booth setup there, then spent the remainder of the evening at Barnes & Noble.

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. 🙂

See ya!

Le pique-nique

IMG_2612

I’m not actually going on a picnic. But this outfit looks like I am, huh??

Gingham! A print I truly love and find oh-so-charming is coming back into my wardrobe, with summer rolling around soon. It just has that summer feel, so this is the time of year I tend to start wearing it.

It is from H&M, but I bought it last year, so it’s been awhile. 🙂

First off, I hope everyone’s been having a good week! Mine seemed to fly by in a blur. Although, it was a quiet week at work. I’ve been reading a lot, on my own time. My current read is a historical non-fiction book, and actually I’m just about wrapping it up…

IMG_2568

This book is soooooooo fascinating, albeit very creepy at the same time. It’s just an eerie subject because the author is concluding that no one will ever truly know what caused this, and I also learned a tremendous amount of things about this time period…some of it, I kind of wish I was still oblivious of.

It mentions the writings of the Brothers Grimm in a theoretical thought, which I found to be super interesting:

IMG_2601

So fascinating to think the dancing plague could have been an inspiration in the original Snow White story!

All-in-all, it’s a fast read that pulls you in and keeps you engaged throughout, and I have truly been enjoying it!

Outfit time. 🙂

IMG_2611

Ahhhhh…blue and white gingham: Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz vibes! I’ve always been fond of her dress in that film, since I was little. It has such an old-fashioned, demure look to it.

IMG_2606

And if you add a little floral tie headband in your hair, you’re definitely stepping up the retro look.

IMG_2603

IMG_2604

IMG_2621

Doesn’t the backyard look cute? It’s funny how the entire look of it has changed since it’s been painted green. I absolutely love it.

There was a two-lane highway of ants on that tree, by the way. Silly me had my hand on it until I realized I was not alone. Fortunately I was spared from having any ants get on me…hahaaaaa.

Well folks, I hope you enjoyed this post and thanks for reading!

‘Til next time! ❤

Fit for a Queen

IMG_2522

Hiiiiiiiiiiiii.

How are you all?! I hope whoever you are, wherever you are, you’re doing fantastic!

I have a double feature today for my post, so sit back, and enjoy!

First off…yesterday I showcased at Art Hop for the second time! It was really fun and I have photos to share.

IMG_2518

Just noticed my reflection is in the picture…and my car, straight ahead. LOOOOL.

I took the day off to enjoy a relaxing day before the show started, and ended up at my favorite coffee shop that morning. And what was I doing, you may ask? Why, studying Swedish, of course. I’m learning it for fun, just because I enjoy learning other languages. What better way to learn than with a kopp kaffe, non? (That was a French/Swedish mashup, right there.)

I should probably not mashup different languages in a sentence because that’s exactly what got me a C in Italian in college. Yikes!!! Italian was hard for me and I’d end up accidentally writing answers in a mix of French and Italian on tests.

IMG_2524

The vintage nightgown/robe I’m so crazy about, which I did a blog post about last weekend, is back! I couldn’t NOT wear it to Art Hop…too cute! Also, I noticed that just wearing a different color skirt underneath totally changes the look. The material is so sheer that it adapts to whatever color you put beneath! Here, it looks more white.

IMG_2526

IMG_2525

IMG_2537

This is my standard setup at Art Hop, although this time, I had new greeting cards and I brought one of the fiction books I published a few years back! So it was a combination of several different things. 🙂

I really want to try more traditional media, for a change. I’ve gotten so used to digital illustration that I feel I need to try something new that will challenge me. So that’s my next artistic endeavor.

It was a fun evening and a lot of people were out at Art Hop. Good times!

Happy Star Wars Day!

IMG_2547

SO!!! It came to my attention last night that on this lovely Friday, it is May 4th, which is Star Wars Day! I totally had to wear my Queen Amidala shirt to celebrate today!

Fun fact: I bought this shirt in 1999. I was in 6th grade when Episode I: The Phantom Menace came out (can’t believe it’s going on 20 years now). As a young girl, I was obsessed with the Queen, and even my English teacher back then nicknamed me The Queen because I had so much Queen Amidala merchandise (folders, T-shirts, etc).

What’s not to love? She’s the queen of her own beautiful planet, she’s strong-minded and has a wardrobe like no other. Oh, and her hair! It’s a given why I adore her so much. 😉

IMG_2550

IMG_2551

IMG_2558

IMG_2555

And there you have it, folks! It was fun to bring out this shirt again. I think I’ll make it a new tradition to wear it on May the 4th, from now on. Heck, I may as well watch The Phantom Menace tonight while I’m at it!

I hope you enjoyed reading!

See you soon! Or if you want some Swedish…vi ses snart! 😉
