Kawaii Bears and Modern Warfare: A Balancing Act

With the events going on in Ukraine, I’ve tuned in and kept myself informed about the unfolding circumstances, watching the footage put up on YouTube from Ukrainians seeing things firsthand. I keep pondering that in itself in amazement; how much has modern warfare changed, due to social media!! Videos of tanks on the move, jet fighters being intercepted in mid-air, civilians standing up for themselves gallantly – like we are seeing it firsthand ourselves, through cell phone video. Nothing like this existed in, say, WWII. Heck, this didn’t even exist when I was in high school when the war in Iraq/Afghanistan started. This is where I think social media is used for the good! Keeping people informed and empathetic to what’s going on.

Having said that…I quickly realized it’s easy to intake a little too much! It made me feel heavy. And helpless, knowing there’s nothing I can do to change these unfortunate circumstances. It was surreal knowing that my most recent additions to my USSR collection (two postcards I mentioned a few blog posts ago) came to me from an Etsy seller in Ukraine – the city the seller is in, now under siege. It makes me wonder how they are doing.

So, while still staying informed and keeping these things in my thoughts, I reminded myself to enjoy my everyday blessings and enjoy the good things I can control. Like wearing a bear-themed outfit, or wearing gingham print. Because gosh darn it, both make me feel like sunshine. ☀️ So here we go!!! To offset the heavy intake of war stuff, I’m countering it with super kawaii cuteness. Because I need that balance.

The first outfit is a sailor-inspired, nautical look! The other two are all about the gingham. Oh, and bears! 🐻💕

Shirt: H&M // Shorts: SHEIN
Ring: Childhood // Hair tie: H&M (was a scarf) // Clips: Etsy // Choker: ROMWE
Shoes: Dolls Kill
Top & Shorts: SHEIN // Hair tie: made by me out of scraps of extra fabric
Purse: I FORGOT??
Shoes: Dolls Kill
Shoes: Dolls Kill
Hair tie: Handmade by me // Overalls: SHEIN // Top: Amazon (used to be a dress but the zipper broke so I made it into a shirt)
Choker & Bear pin: Etsy

See ya next time!! ✌🏼💗

  1. First of all love the bear outfit. So stinking cute. Love the colors that you use too. But you’re so right with how social media has changed how we view modern warfare. I’ve seen some awful images on Twitter. From destroyed buildings to completely charred bodies of dead Russian soldiers. Those are definitely images that will stay with me forever. Hopefully this horrible conflict will come to an end soon. You’re also right with trying to counter all that with something pleasant.

    1. Thanks so much!!! And WOW, I have not seen any photos of dead bodies so far…yikes, that would totally disturb me. Hopefully I don’t stumble across any when I view more YouTube footage! Agreed – totally hope this conflict ends soon!!

  2. I know how much the Ukraine means to you and did wonder how you were doing. I can’t believe it was a whole week ago when A Million Little Things was interrupted with the news of Russia’s attack. I watched that coverage, but nothing else. It’s too disturbing. So, I’m so glad that you found a balance in focusing on fashion. I know it’s worked for me in many situations! All three of your outfits are incredible, but it’s the last one that takes the cake. Those bear shoes!!! Not to mention the bear on you shortalls!!! Adorable, and just what the (anti-media?) doctor ordered. 🙂

    1. Sorry for the late reply – for some reason it got buried in my notifications!!!? Wasn’t it surreal when the news coverage broke out? You’re so right that fashion saves the day in many situations! I’m so glad you liked the bears in this post! Thank you!!

  3. Your garden looks so colorful and inviting. I’m so jealous Lol I look out my window and all I see is snow, ice, and a thick blanket of fog. It’s been foggy for DAYS!

I think you could be a spokesperson or model for Shien. I’m guessing it’s one of your favorite places to shop? Their stuff looks so cute but I’m so hesitant to buy anything. I’m seriously the most indecisive person ever.

And those shoes!!! You’re a human doll! ☺️🌺

    1. Thanks so much!!! I try to brighten things up in the backyard to make it look perky. Hopefully spring shows up soon where you are!

Wow, thanks so much for the compliments!!! SHEIN is definitely my favorite go-to place to shop online! The clothes are super cute and inexpensive, to boot!

      1. Spring does not seem to exist where I live, not even around the corner. ☹ I woke up to an icy, snow-covered driveway, icy sidewalks, and blistery cold winds. I spent almost an hour outside today and it was brutal. I wore layers and was still very cold. It’s going to be colder tomorrow. I am so over winter.

I am so tempted to order things from SHEIN because everything looks so cute. Even my mom wanted to order things from there. I’m kinda stuck in my ways where I prefer to shop at a brick and mortar store vs. online. I’m very stuck in my ways. 😅
