Me and a Paint Brush…

IMG_3102

Ahoy! 🙂

As you can see, I did some art shopping! I needed some new small canvas’ and specific acrylic paint for my next creation. I hope it turns out the way I envision it…fingers crossed!

I love the feeling of excitement before creating something new. You really have no idea how it will turn out, no?

IMG_3137

But that’s the beauty of it…not knowing how something will turn out is intriguing. ♥

Today’s ensemble is simply pink, with butterfly accents. Sometimes I’m not sure what to wear, so I stick with certain things I know I love, such as pink, and my butterfly headband that seems to go with anything when I don’t know which headband to wear!

Today was super busy, and I plan to share more about the neat event happening next Thursday! I’ll save it for next week though, and I’m really looking forward to sharing it.

I made some new jewelry this week…and it’s part of a little series I started, where I make jewelry inspired by a particular place in the world:

I have here, “Dreaming of Dubai” and “Swedish Summer”.

Dubai, UAE is a place I’ve always found to be mysteriously beautiful. I love the desert and the idea of a large city where the desert meets the sea is quite enchanting. With that in mind, I decorated the first ring with lots of beige and gold accents!

The second ring is a lot of fun and is inspired by the Midsummer festival in Sweden. I topped it off with a pretty pink Dala horse. ♥

Speaking of places in the world…I recently discovered that there is a country called Azerbaijan.

IMG_3042

It popped up in my international viewers list on WordPress last week. As a geography nerd, I had never heard of it. So of course I thought, there’s a country I haven’t heard of? NO WAY!

I watched a few travel vlogs on Youtube about it. Fascinating! I really like the fact that I’ve never lost my fascination with different countries. In elementary school, I kept a world map in my binder and would browse through it at school, imagining what the countries looked like.

Then sometimes at recess (when I wasn’t in the library looking at books, LOL) I remember having a friend and we would play out on the grass, pretending we were in a different place in the world and pointing with admiration at imaginary buildings.

I wonder if the recess staff thought we were nuts? 🙂 Perhaps, but…

Great quote, and sooo true! Imagination has played a huge role in my life and also in my creative works. ♥

So for tonight, it’ll be me and my paint brush. For fellow artists and crafters out there, keep on creating and I hope you keep your imagination alive and active. 🙂

See you next time!!!

Fit for a Queen

Hiiiiiiiiiiiii.

How are you all?! I hope whoever you are, wherever you are, you’re doing fantastic!

I have a double feature today for my post, so sit back, and enjoy!

First off…yesterday I showcased at Art Hop for the second time! It was really fun and I have photos to share.

IMG_2518

Just noticed my reflection is in the picture…and my car, straight ahead. LOOOOL.

I took the day off to enjoy a relaxing day before the show started, and ended up at my favorite coffee shop that morning. And what was I doing, you may ask? Why, studying Swedish, of course. I’m learning it for fun, just because I enjoy learning other languages. What better way to learn than with a kopp kaffe, non? (That was a French/Swedish mashup, right there.)

I should probably not mashup different languages in a sentence because that’s exactly what got me a C in Italian in college. Yikes!!! Italian was hard for me and I’d end up accidentally writing answers in a mix of French and Italian on tests.

IMG_2524

The vintage nightgown/robe I’m so crazy about, which I did a blog post about last weekend, is back! I couldn’t NOT wear it to Art Hop…too cute! Also, I noticed that just wearing a different color skirt underneath totally changes the look. The material is so sheer that it adapts to whatever color you put beneath! Here, it looks more white.

IMG_2537

This is my standard setup at Art Hop, although this time, I had new greeting cards and I brought one of the fiction books I published a few years back! So it was a combination of several different things. 🙂

I really want to try more traditional media, for a change. I’ve gotten so used to digital illustration that I feel I need to try something new that will challenge me. So that’s my next artistic endeavor.

It was a fun evening and a lot of people were out at Art Hop. Good times!

Happy Star Wars Day!

IMG_2547

SO!!! It came to my attention last night that on this lovely Friday, it is May 4th, which is Star Wars Day! I totally had to wear my Queen Amidala shirt to celebrate today!

Fun fact: I bought this shirt in 1999. I was in 6th grade when Episode I: The Phantom Menace came out (can’t believe it’s going on 20 years now). As a young girl, I was obsessed with the Queen, and even my English teacher back then nicknamed me The Queen because I had so much Queen Amidala merchandise (folders, T-shirts, etc).

What’s not to love? She’s the queen of her own beautiful planet, she’s strong-minded and has a wardrobe like no other. Oh, and her hair! It’s a given why I adore her so much. 😉

And there you have it, folks! It was fun to bring out this shirt again. I think I’ll make it a new tradition to wear it on May the 4th, from now on. Heck, I may as well watch The Phantom Menace tonight while I’m at it!

I hope you enjoyed reading!

See you soon! Or if you want some Swedish…vi ses snart! 😉

Crystal Baller

IMG_1834

Hello, hello!!!

Ahh…one of many bands that makes me nostalgic for the 90’s is Third Eye Blind, which is song-referenced in my blog post title. I’m also getting back into wearing chokers again (we have an on-again, off-again relationship it seems) which is also very 90’s. To continue on with the crystal ball reference though, I also have this to talk about:

IMG_1811

The Crystal Ball FrappucinoThis elusive drink is only available for a few days before it disappears. I tried it, on a very stormy evening a few days ago (you can see the rain on the window, and it was thundering and lightning, too). It was quite delicious! Very sweet (I’m used to mochas, which have a rich taste and aren’t as sweet) but it was nice for a one-time try. ❤

IMG_1841

Guys, I can’t tell you how excited I am for Easter!!! I can’t wait to get decked out like a pastel princess, and I have a headband I’m making to wear that day. Really looking forward to wearing my Easter outfit!

IMG_1831

The weather is in that weird stage where it’s warm one day and cold the next, and today was an in-between sort of deal where it was not really warm but not really cold either. With that, I chose a comfy sweater and a purple skirt, and a gold belt to tie off the look.

IMG_1829

It’s so faint, but I’m wearing a light purple choker. I’m totally getting into wearing chokers again! More to come in future outfit posts. 🙂

IMG_1838

IMG_1842

New nails!!! I love these; I continued with the ombre sparkle look, like I had previously. I’m really loving them! ❤

IMG_1812

I drew this the same evening we had that severe thunderstorm, and I was drinking the Crystal Ball frappucino. The creativity was flowing and I decided to draw this. 🙂  My inspiration was simple: I’m very big on ‘happy places’. That varies greatly from one person to the next, but for me, a cup of coffee and a book is one of my many go-to ‘happy places’. ❤

‘Til Next Time!

Artsy Chic

IMG_1405

Hello there!!! I have some super duper exciting things to share, so here we go!

Last night, I had my first art showing!

I was asked by a DJ who I follow on social media about setting up a table at Art Hop, which is a once-a-month event downtown. I was, of course, ecstatic!!! I had to pick the perfect artsy/feminine outfit that would reflect my own art, so I went with this.  The ring is my own creation, of course!

IMG_1470

IMG_1443

I took the day off from work just to enjoy the day before I arrived early to set up. Going to Yellow Mug coffee shop, it was very quiet because a) it was a weekday and b) the weather was SOOOOO terrible! Rain and wind, all day. But, I got to enjoy the warmth of the coffee shop indoors and watch the rain through the windows. 😉

As you can see, I had a celebratory birthday cake macaron with my coffee that morning. ❤

IMG_1393

Showtime!

IMG_1484

Here is my set up! I brought out my top favorite art and jewelry creations. ❤ I had the opportunity to walk around the room and look at other artists’ work and share our inspiration behind what we create.

For me, all of my work has an underlying theme: femininity! My jewelry has mostly a cutesy, floral theme to it, and my digital art is all of women with their own type of beauty and mystique to them. Both my outfit and display have a lot of pinks and florals, because pink is a powerfully feminine color and flowers are Earth’s natural beauty. Flowers comfort me. ❤

IMG_1491

The art show started off quietly, but as the evening went on…

IMG_1494

…it picked up and was packed! It turned into a house party environment with musicians performing and people dancing. It was very fun. 🙂

At the very end of the night, I sold a ring! I was pleasantly surprised. The entire night was a lot of fun, and several friends of mine came through to see my work and show their support. I was touched! ❤

This was a big deal to me because I have wanted to showcase my art at Art Hop for a long time! I set up my table display on my own and it’s just how I hoped it would look. So I feel really happy that I accomplished a long-time goal!

Have a happy weekend! See you next time!
