Doll Parts

IMG_5255

Hey hey! ♥

Don’t ya just love when you find one of your favorite albums on vinyl? I managed to get Hole’s 1994 album Live Through This this past weekend!

I really love this album; it has that distinct 90’s sound I’m quite partial to. Courtney Love has such a unique, edgy voice and there are a lot of great songs on here, in my opinion! “Doll Parts” and “Miss World” are my two favorites. ♥

I plan on collecting more 90’s records I love. The next one I have my eye on is Dizzy Up the Girl (1998)my favorite Goo Goo Dolls album. 🌸

Again, the gloves are back…don’t be surprised if you see these more often! These are the pale pink ones I’ve been waiting for… 😃 😃 😃

IMG_5265

Shades of purple!!! 💜 Can’t go wrong with that, am I right? Paired with the gloves, I just really loved this outfit. REALLY LOVED IT. Plus, the sweater was warm (it’s getting chilly).

So, I was thinking today; who was your first style inspiration? Did you have one? I certainly did, and here was mine, funny enough:

0003

You didn’t see that coming, did you?

Poison Ivy from Batman and Robin (1997) was my first fashion inspiration as a kid. I was 10 years old. Her over-the-top style and the fact that she was nuts made her all the more endearing, but the main appeal for me was her hair. I actually wanted to style my hair just like the above picture at the time, but I reached a compromise with my mom and ended up making my own ivy headband (Haaa! My first DIY project!) that emulated what she wore in her hair here:

00004

I wore that headband all the time. I even had lime green sunglasses like the ones she wore in the movie.

And that was just the beginning of what was to come of my future in dressing myself. I think this was the starting point in which my family at first, when I’d debut something interesting I wanted to wear, would answer with a collective “…why?

But then it was too late. From then on I swam so far out into my own ocean of fashion lunacy, that they decided to just smile and wave supportively from the safety of the bay docks, rather than try to swim after me and stop it.

Figuratively speaking, of course…

IMG_5267

IMG_5268

Which is good! 😀 I’m glad self-expression was an okay thing to embrace growing up. If it hadn’t been, I wouldn’t be who I am today, which would make me sad. 🙁

Snap shots from the start of the week!!!

I went to a Parisian-themed café:

IMG_5286

I then took a nice nature walk and enjoyed the changing of the leaves:

IMG_5287

So needless to say, the start of my vacation week has been splendid! 💕

See ya next time!!! Ghost post is next!

Daisies

IMG_4050

Hey hey!!!

I’ve always wanted daisy hair accessories, and now I have ’em! These are simple iron-on appliques from Joann Fabric, and I glued alligator clips on the back.

IMG_4048

IMG_4053

IMG_4055

IMG_4052

And just like that, you have a very playful and retro look! Daisies instantly remind me of the 1960’s and early 1970’s. ♥

movie001

“They’re so friendly. Don’t you think daisies are the friendliest flower?”

Remember the movie You’ve Got Mail?! My mom used to watch that movie ALL the time when I was a kid. I loved it, too! It’s a really cute romantic comedy, and daisies make me think of this one scene in particular.

Daisies also make me think of the art film, Daisies, which I watched in my Art Appreciation class in college, the last semester before I graduated.

Daisies-1966

margaritass010

I remember it was a very unusual and surreal film, and the retro look was what really caught my attention (it’s from 1966).

It is a Czech film, and it follows these two young ladies and their misadventures, filled with crazy antics and their carefree perspective on life, in which they take nothing seriously.

The film was banned after the Soviet invasion in 1968, in which creative arts were greatly restricted.

Anytime I see daisies, I think of the movie. 🙂

IMG_4073

Okay, so these are not daisies…in fact, I believe they are just plain ol’ weeds, because they are growing out of a crack in the asphalt in the parking lot at my work. However!!! I find them to be rather beautiful and I sort of watch them as they grow with each passing work day (I am easily entertained).

When I take my break at work, I slip out to the back of the warehouse and have a snack, read a little bit and check them out. They’re interesting…

IMG_4074

IMG_4075

It kind of proves that beauty can be found anywhere, no? Even behind a dusty warehouse in a parking lot. I finally decided to photograph them since they (mostly) became in full bloom these last few days.

IMG_4090

This is my current read!!! ♥ I finished No Easy Day by Mark Owen, and it definitely became one of my favorite SEAL books I’ve read (so far). It was so good and one thing I have noticed with reading books written by Navy SEALs is their similar sense of humor, which has me laughing out loud at times while I read.

I’m on chapter four at this point, where Marcus Luttrell is about to start BUD/S training (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL training), and I already know it’s going to be sooooo hard to put down. And I haven’t even gotten to the truly intense parts of the book yet.

Who else loves it when they get so into a book, they just don’t want to leave the pages? ♥

♥ Until next time! ♥

Rockin’ Retro

IMG_2640

Behold, a STICK!!!

Hi! I bring a double outfit post today, so sit back and enjoy! It was a fun-filled weekend and I wore two outfits I really loved and wanted to share. Yay!

IMG_2630

A lovely white frock adorned with little red hearts! I wore this on Valentine’s Day, and haven’t worn it since. No idea why I haven’t? I’ve been missing out, because this dress is awesome!!!

IMG_2628

The lace sleeves are actually separate. I wore a lace top underneath to give it a more feminine look.

IMG_2631

IMG_2633

DANG IT, WIND!!!!!!!!!!

IMG_2637

IMG_2635

This was my Friday outfit. I went for coffee with a friend that night and we chatted and caught up on life. It was a perfect, warm evening to boot. 🙂

IMG_2664

Here’s the second outfit! I wore this on Sunday, and this was another super retro look, paired with the bow. ❤ (Also, I love my crooked bangs, by the way).

IMG_2653

I look like I’m up to something…but what?

IMG_2652

This lace trim collar is detachable. My sister made it for me, and I love it! Instant vintage vibes. 🙂

IMG_2659

IMG_2660

IMG_2662

My beat up, old shoes…

IMG_2670 (1)

Aw, look at those cracks. What’s funny is that I have so many brand new shoes I love to wear (like the other black ones pictured in the first outfit), but every now and then, I still bring out these old-timey shoes because I just love them for some reason.

I randomly painted some rocks, too…

IMG_2679

The top one looks like a sugar cookie, doesn’t it? I don’t recommend taking a bite. 😉

These are cute decorations for my backyard. I loooove how they turned out. I’ve wanted to paint a few rocks for awhile now, and glad I finally did!

In a nutshell, my weekend was fabulous! I went to a small craft fair on Saturday evening to see my friend who had her own booth setup there, then spent the remainder of the evening at Barnes & Noble.

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend. 🙂

See ya!

An Ode to the Love Witch

IMG_2438

Hello there! Today I bring you two outfits that are inspired by a fictional character in film!

They’re inspired by The Love Witch! Now, I have actually never seen the movie, but the fashion alone caught my eye immediately from film stills. I find myself saving photos of the main character’s dreamy, 1960’s outfits on Pinterest frequently!

First Outfit!

I love how this gorgeous yellow and white ensemble looks both Victorian and 1960’s simultaneously! The choker is such a nice addition.

My Version:

IMG_2419

IMG_2409

Clearly my outfit differs from hers, but the general color palette and the accessorizing is what I was going for!

I’ve had this yellow dress for awhile now and it’s from Goodwill. I loooove lace, so I thought it paired well with the dress et voilà! I added a thick black choker and I realized I created my own variation of the character’s outfit, straight out of my closet.

Second Outfit!

love-witch-red

This stunning red looks amazing on her! I’m really not a wearer of red very often, but I recently ordered a new blouse from Amazon and decided to give it a try with a matching red skirt I also bought on Amazon!

My Version:

IMG_2455

IMG_2456

Mine’s a bit of a darker red, but same idea! I lucked out that my skirt matched almost perfectly with the blouse.

My car and I are twins! I had to get a picture!!! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed the outfit post today! Thanks for stopping by and see you next time!

To Everything, There is a Season

IMG_0215

Hello again! I hope you all enjoyed your weekend; I had a Valentine’s Day activity on Friday night that I’d like to share with you all because it was really cool! Maybe you’ll get inspired by it. 😉

I was asked by a group of girls at church if I could host a Valentine’s Day card-making activity. Since I’m all about the arts and crafts, I was quick to agree to it. It turned out great!

IMG_0211

IMG_0212

The set up came out really cute, and it reminded me of elementary school when we’d use construction paper to make things. Memories… ❤

IMG_0214

IMG_0213

These were my two sample cards I made so the girls could get inspiration while making their own cards. The first one was more old-fashioned and the second has more of a quirky/fun look.

There really is something about making a card from scratch!

Outfit of the Day

IMG_0454

This is one of those skirts that I have worn a trillion times, and will continue to wear it until it’s no longer wearable. Even then, I’ll probably do everything I can to fix it and make it last! I bought it at Forever 21 YEARS ago. It’s held up very well.

Do you have a clothing item that has always stuck with ya? No matter how long you’ve had it, you love it so much that you’ll do anything to keep it in good condition and you can’t part with it?

IMG_0329

I’m LOVING this new mesh top from Forever 21!!! It has little rhinestones all over it. In the sun, it really sparkles.

IMG_0302

The rhinestones are AB rhinestones, so when the light hits them, they’re multi-colored. So beautiful! I just bought this top on Saturday, so it should still be in stores if you’re interested.

IMG_0340

As you can see in the photo below, the skirt was worn again soon after in a different outfit. 😛

Saturday was such a beautiful day and unseasonably warm! It was the first day that felt like it was spring, and it had me feeling all sorts of dreamy-eyed and wanting to be outdoors. I did just that and went for a walk in the late afternoon, and it had me in such a great mood.

Do seasons do that to you? I feel similar when fall starts. Spring though is such a unique time of year. The air smells sweet and it’s wonderful to go for a walk without getting a chill.  Now I await for the blossom trees to be in full bloom. Some people dislike the smell, but I love them (and love looking at them).

And then, I always end up listening to 60’s music when I go for a springtime walk. To me, 60’s music really fits for spring and also summer. It’s that carefree vibe.

IMG_0279

I know there’s still winter left to be had, but I really can’t wait until spring arrives. It makes my heart full. ❤

‘Til Next Time!

Fashion & Food

IMG_0042

Notice anything funny about these photos…?

Some are blurry. I bought a new phone! It’s an iPhone 8 and I really am loving it. However, I’m trying to get accustomed to the camera. It takes photos a bit differently than my older iPhone I previously owned. I’m learning, hahaaaa…

I love the fact that my battery lasts soooo long now, as opposed to my last one. It’s super fast, too.

IMG_0047

I like the blue tint my phone naturally gave the sky in this photo. I didn’t edit anything. Although, it looks like it’s -40 degrees outside…

Speaking of cold weather; I have a pen pal that lives in Siberia. (Does anyone else have a pen pal? It’s quite a thing of the past it seems, but it’s really awesome. You get to learn about a different culture and discuss the differences of your country to theirs. I highly encourage giving it a try, and there are plenty of pen pal websites to choose from! Be cautious of course, but there are plenty of people looking for a genuine friendship-only correspondence.) Anyway, I always feel silly saying how cold it is in California…to my pen pal that lives in Siberia. It’s like I don’t even have the right to talk about the cold, when I hear that people’s eyelashes are freezing over there!

IMG_0045

I made this nifty little bow myself! I’ve been wanting a pink bow headband and have searched relentlessly online, only to realize I could just make one. Thus, I did. All it required was ribbon, a blank headband, and a few minutes!

IMG_0053

You can see that I have a sheer, glittery white ribbon intertwined with a pink ribbon. Side note: I really like this picture of me because in the lighting, it looks like I have a little BUCK TOOTH.

IMG_0048

I really love this lace blouse! It’s originally meant to be a high-neck top, but I wore it with the buttons open. You can wear it either way, and it can be found here.

Food Corner

IMG_0058

I don’t typically talk about food on my blog, but I have a true testimony in regards to garlic and onion, which is what I’ll be discussing! (Totally gave it a photoshoot – didn’t the picture turn out pretty?)

For the past four months or so, I’ve eaten raw garlic and onion at least three times a week – not just because I love it, but I read that these two foods are great for an immunity boost! It helped in ways I wouldn’t have imagined, though…

A quick backstory; for the past three years, I had a seasonal dry cough in the winter months. It was really awful and any time I breathed in cold winter air, I’d cough almost non-stop. Cough drops did nothing, locally-grown honey with lemon in hot water did nothing, so I just dealt with it and coughed my way through winter.

Once I began eating raw garlic and onion regularly for a few months, not only did I completely dodge the cold/flu that went around the office, but my dry winter cough vanished! It’s 100% gone!

So, if you are looking for a great way to boost your immunity, I kindly recommend raw onions and garlic.* (I would say for seasonal dry cough relief, use it for that too, but just because it worked for me doesn’t mean it will work for everyone else! Of course, you can consider it and try it for yourself!)

The way I eat it:

  • I smear a light amount of cheese or hummus onto pumpernickel bread
  • Chop up some onion of your choice – for me, I like white onion
  • Chop up one clove of garlic
  • I include tomatoes for flavor
  • Place onto sandwich, and enjoy!

*in addition to these foods, my diet consists of mainly fruits, vegetables, nuts and fish…okay, and Starbucks mochas…so collectively, some of these other foods may also aid in immunity-boosting benefits!

I hope you enjoyed this post! ‘Til next time! ❤

An Ode to My Leading Ladies

Last night, I was going through my Pinterest board and looking through all of the pictures of ladies who inspire me in the fashion and makeup sense. Just for fun, I decided to do a photo-only post filled with all of my favorite leading ladies, from the past to present! They range from singers with a great sense of style to actresses with eye-catching fashion they wore for films.

Feel free to comment if you have any of your own leading ladies who inspire you, whether it be fashion-wise or makeup, etc!
