Pretty in Pink

Hey there!!

For some reason this past week, I’ve watched Pretty in Pink (1986) like three times. I forgot how much I really love the movie and it’s definitely a favorite of mine. I admire Andie’s unique fashion sense and my favorite part is at the end, when she tells her dad before leaving for the prom that she’s going by herself. That, and her prom dress was absolutely killer!!!

I’m definitely on team Duckie, just to be clear. He always supported Andie’s “volcanic ensembles” and was genuinely a sweetheart, with a really cute personality AND cute teeth, no less. 💜

HOWEVER. I still can’t help swooning over Steff’s dreamy 80’s hair…*sigh*

I just now realized I am literally almost as old as this movie, haha!! Now back here in 2019…welp, here I am in a pink frock with a bell-shaped-sleeve blouse that just so happened to match the dress color, perfectly! I love when that happens.

Good times, people. What would I do without my eccentric and fun outfits???? I’d be pretty bored, to make an honest guess. I love putting together “volcanic ensembles”. 😉

See ya next time!!

Welcome!! 💜

These two outfits I recently wore, are a very very modern twist inspired by Edwardian fashion. I’ve always adored the fashion from that time period (the years were between the 1890’s to about 1914).

Lace and gloves are a delicate combination I really admire. Taking from clothing and accessories I already have, I came up with a super pink ensemble! The pink lace top and cardigan are from Amazon; the skirt is a recent purchase from Forever21.

I made the red choker myself; I simply glued a rhinestone onto the elastic red ribbon. ❤️

Onto the next outfit; the above photo is another example of a signature Edwardian blouse. I did my own take on it using a vintage brooch I own and simply pinned it onto my blouse for an instant Edwardian flair!!

Overall, I really love how they each turned out!! My creativity has been coming forth very strongly lately through fashion. Which isn’t anything new for me, but with some additions lately like wearing gloves and adding vintage brooches.

‘Til next time!!

Spring and Unicorn Appreciation

Hi peeps!!

Last weekend, I went for a nice walk with a friend of mine, where I was able to truly appreciate spring in full bloom! 🌸 I even wore my springy lace gloves, so you know I meant business…

Blink blink!

I love going for walks during spring, because my curious inner child comes out to play. I love looking at the plants, and observing the behavior of creepy crawlers I spot along the way!

SO!!! Tuesday was National Unicorn Day, I recently learned. I follow Sweet Lyfe Boba Bar on Instagram, which is a local boba shop in my city with super cute food and beverages. I saw that they were having a celebration for National Unicorn Day, so my sister and I went there for unicorn-themed treats!!!

And I got to pose in front of this super cute backdrop they had set up! 💜

Everything was cuteness overload! It was a really fun morning. 💜

See you next time!!

Pass the Banjo

Hi, y’aaaaaall. For the record, I don’t play the banjo. But with my big hair paired with my gorgeous new gingham dress, it looks like I should!

Need I say more? I’m not sure who this woman is but she’s adorable, and we have somehow managed to coordinate outfits without even knowing. And decades apart, at that!!!! My sister sent me this photo and said it reminded her of me, by the way. That’s how I discovered my outfit twin.

This is a handmade dress from She’s a Mermaid Cat over on Etsy! She sews the most incredible clothing and I’m a huge fan now! I look forward to buying more dresses from her in the future! The clothing she makes is beautifully retro and sweet, and amazing quality to boot! 💜

In other news, guess who bought herself a ticket to see Ghost in September?!?!?! This will be my third time seeing them!

This is going to be a fresh experience for me in the sense that…I’m going by myself! I’ve never been to a concert by myself in my life! It’s out of town, but fortunately not a far drive at all.

I’m actually pretty proud of myself to be honest, because I never thought I’d have the courage to go to a concert alone (but I mean heck, I’ll be surrounded by hundreds of other people!). I go everywhere from coffee shops, walking at the park, to dining by myself with no hesitation, but a concert is something I have yet to try! So yay for climbing over those comfort zone obstacles!

Hope you enjoyed!! See ya!

Spring Green

Hi hi!!

I’ve really grown fond of pale green. 💚 This color makes me think so much of spring! I wore this over the weekend.

Close-up of the accessories: vintage necklace (thrift find), choker (gift from my sister), and butterfly hair clips. 💚

I really really loved this outfit!! I love this shade of green because it fits into my whole pastel aesthetic.

Like my new hairbrush?! It’s a seashell!!! 💜

‘Til next time!!

Fade Into You

Hey all!! 💙

I hope you all have had a beautiful weekend. This outfit I’m wearing is from Friday. 😃 I was feeling very dreamy and whimsical, and my outfit certainly conveyed my mood from that day!

I love this headband so much!!! I got it from Claire’s awhile back. Paired with the roses, it was just so majestic.

I went to Teazers Friday night to do some much-needed journaling and work on my laptop, and people were giving my headband (or maybe not just the headband but me in general) some peculiar glances. What, isn’t it normal to see a woman with stars coming out of her head?!?!!

I had a visitor while I was journaling… 😃

On a concluding note, I met with my newfound uncle (as I mentioned the remarkable story in my previous post) for coffee this weekend. It was a beautiful time and something I’ll never forget!!!!!

Much to my surprise, I was given artwork made by my dad (and learned he is still an artist today, in fact, and that we have way more similarities on the creative spectrum than I ever would have imagined…). I wasn’t expecting to be given the artwork, so I was a bit speechless. I will cherish it! ❤️

See ya next time!!!

Ladybugs and a Miracle

Hi there!! I have something amazing to share today, but first let’s talk about my ladybug theme going on from this weekend! 🐞

I was perusing World Market a few nights ago and came across this lone journal sitting off by itself on a shelf. Ladybugs are a favorite of mine, so I couldn’t leave without it! I love journaling, so it won’t collect dust either.

Guys, you have no idea how happy this made me that my hair clips matched my journal…lol.

Now to share a story that is still hard for me to believe actually happened. It’s too mind-blowing not to blog about it! This happened just a few days ago…

So, I go to Starbucks a LOT. It’s like my home away from home and I’ve met so many people over the years from going to Starbucks! 😃 Maybe less than a year ago, a man told me in passing, as I was drinking my coffee, “Hey! Just wanted to say I love your look, it’s so cool and unique.” I said thank you, with a smile.

A few months later, I run into him again and we exchanged hello’s and small talked. We discussed art for a bit, and added each other on social media.

We’ve been social media friends for a few months and we both noticed we share the same interest in music, too. I ran into him again at Starbucks on Saturday, and we chatted much longer than ever before.

I don’t know what it was you guys, but in the middle of talking to him, something clicked in my mind. I had this strange feeling that was telling me, There’s something familiar about this man…

I tossed the thought aside and kept the conversation going for the time being. We exchanged a hug before he left and I continued on with my day.

That evening, I returned home. I suddenly remembered how I felt talking to him earlier – what was that feeling I had? Why was there something about his facial features that seemed so…familiar?

Right then, something told me to go look at my mom’s tiny, old photo album she keeps on a shelf. Something in that photo album was calling to me in that moment, and it was reminding me of this man. I flipped it open and went directly to a specific photograph. It’s the only photo I have of my dad (long story short, I never knew him or anyone on his side of the family). The picture is of my dad, his brother and sister, taken in 1989.

My eyes zeroed in on his brother in the photo. That was it – he looked very similar to the man I’d been chatting with at Starbucks!!!!! I quickly got on social media and compared the photo to see the similarities side-by-side.

I asked my mom and sister, “What’s my father’s brother’s name?” I didn’t know and I never had a reason to ask about it until now. They answered, and my legs literally went weak when they said his first and last name – an exact match of the man’s name from Starbucks.

I had my answer, but I had to confirm it all. My heart pounding and my hands shaking, I sent him a message and explained that what I was about to ask may sound very strange, but I had to know. I asked him, “I’m sorry, but is this you in this photo, taken in 1989?”

I sent him a photo of the photo and, being completely in shock, he said that yes it was him and wondered how on earth I had the photo in my possession. I explained that it’s the only photo I have of my dad, who’s the other man in the picture. The conversation then went to the realization that he and I…are related. He’s my uncle and I’m his niece.

It was like being struck by an emotional bolt of lightning. I rarely ever cry, but oh boy did I break into tears. The man from Starbucks who I’d been chatting with about music and art this whole time, IS MY DAD’S BROTHER! And neither of us knew, until I somehow put the pieces together from a 30 year old photograph!

I feel happy and grateful that this happened! On the flip-side, after the dust has now settled, I feel a mysterious sadness that I can’t even begin to describe. I think it’s because I never knew my dad and suddenly I realized I’ve been friends with his brother without knowing. It’s a flood of emotions. I’ve been in an introspective haze and have just needed time to process everything.

Well, I hope you all enjoyed reading. It was long and not my usual content but, it was too surreal of an occurrence not to share with whoever follows my little corner of the internet. ❤️

See you next time!!
