Full of Secrets

Recently, a fellow blogger named Giada (go check out her blog, she takes beautiful pictures and has great style!) suggested I do a blog post about my hair. I thought that was a really good idea and one I should have thought of sooner!

A lot of people ask how I get my hair so big. Truth is, it’s just full of secrets. I wake up and it naturally looks this way…get out of the shower, and boom…it’s huge and full of volume.

I wish. 🙂

While my secrets do contribute to my hair volume 😉 , it actually takes strong hairspray, tools, and time to complete. Getting dressed, doing my hair and makeup combined takes about an hour and a half to do.

Clearly I wear extensions (for length), but all the teased portion of my hair is my own. I wear two of the large-sized Bumpits (one on the top of my head, another further back behind it):

Bumpits

Teasing my hair is still a big part of it, as the Bumpits themselves serve to keep my hair from falling flat. Also, there is another way to create the volume:

The hair donut! What I did was take one that corresponds with my hair color (so, brown for me) and I cut one side up to the hole, and it then creates one long, squishy tool to put volume in my hair. It holds in place on my head underneath my hair by putting a bobby pin on each end! Just make sure to tease your hair to cover it.

Lastly, I keep it all in place by using Aussie Instant Freeze. This is the best hairspray I’ve ever used and nothing else holds as well as this does, in my opinion! I’ve sat on many windy beaches and my hair kept its shape because of this glorious hairspray. You don’t have to be heavy-handed when spraying this because it really is an instant freeze. A little goes a long way!

So, there ya go! There are various ways to get volume, and these are my go-to’s that work for me. I know this is an extreme hairstyle and not everyone wants so much volume, so you can tone it down by using smaller Bumpits of course or a smaller hair donut. Same result, just more subtle. 🙂

Happy Saturday!

A Red Bow and a Smile

There’s something about a red hair bow that adds a vintage flair to any outfit!

Today I wore one of my favorite casual outfits – a black pinstripe romper I bought at Target. Perfect for a warm spring day. 🙂

I’ve always admired lovely ladies from the 1960’s who effortlessly pulled off the eye-catching, charming red bow look.

My favorite thing about this romper are the POCKETS. I adore pockets, so I get super excited when a dress/skirt/romper has them, haha.

Hope everyone is having a fantastic weekend!

A Beautiful Day

Today while sitting at Starbucks, I was able to witness a long march of people passing by, waving pride flags, American flags, and donning the color pink for the Women’s March that took place in many cities across the U.S. I’m not one to discuss politics, but what I want to share is this: today, I witnessed an overwhelming sense of unity. I will always remember the smiles on these people’s faces, the smile I gave in return as I stood to watch them pass by, and the feeling of everyone being together peacefully. The positive vibes were so strong. It touched my heart.

Another reason why today was awesome was because I received my STRAWBERRY HAIRCLIP and my new phone case in the mail! Also, a new umbrella that I’ll take pictures of later in the daytime. Here you can see the strawberry hair clip I’m wearing; I love wearing cute stuff in my hair because my hair is huge and feels like a canvas to decorate!

Aaaaaand, my new phone case. Creepy, no? It’s Karen Cooper from the 1968 film, Night of the Living Dead. I clearly really enjoy cutesy stuff, but I also have a soft spot for creepy stuff just as well.

Hope everyone is having a rockin’ Saturday! 🙂

Retro Thursday

Well, every day is a retro day for me style-wise, but today I went super extra retro with a very nostalgic look that clearly nods to a bygone era – the sixties.

There’s just something about black-and-white stripes and blue eyeshadow that go together in such an effortlessly retro look. Often I peruse Pinterest in hopes of finding fashion inspiration, or makeup inspiration, and I definitely found it this past week!

I love colorful little bobby pins to put on the side of my hair. To me, it adds an instant 60’s/70’s look that I just can’t get enough of. I’ve always been drawn to the heavy eye makeup and nude lipstick look, and big, voluptuous hairstyles. I think it all began when my mom first let me watch the Beach Party films with Frankie Avalon and Annette Funicello as a child. There was something about the smiling, beach-clad girls with their thick black eyeliner and big hair that forever inspired me to model my everyday look after them.

So that’s today’s look! I paired the shirt with a bright red skirt to add a bold splash of color, and for some reason I forgot to take a picture of the full ensemble. Oops! Oh well, you get the idea.

Have a lovely Thursday!
