Artsy Chic

IMG_1405

Hello there!!! I have some super duper exciting things to share, so here we go!

Last night, I had my first art showing!

I was asked by a DJ who I follow on social media about setting up a table at Art Hop, which is a once-a-month event downtown. I was, of course, ecstatic!!! I had to pick the perfect artsy/feminine outfit that would reflect my own art, so I went with this.  The ring is my own creation, of course!

I took the day off from work just to enjoy the day before I arrived early to set up. Going to Yellow Mug coffee shop, it was very quiet because a) it was a weekday and b) the weather was SOOOOO terrible! Rain and wind, all day. But, I got to enjoy the warmth of the coffee shop indoors and watch the rain through the windows. 😉

As you can see, I had a celebratory birthday cake macaron with my coffee that morning. ❤

Showtime!

Here is my set up! I brought out my top favorite art and jewelry creations. ❤ I had the opportunity to walk around the room and look at other artists’ work and share our inspiration behind what we create.

For me, all of my work has an underlying theme: femininity! My jewelry has mostly a cutesy, floral theme to it, and my digital art is all of women with their own type of beauty and mystique to them. Both my outfit and display have a lot of pinks and florals, because pink is a powerfully feminine color and flowers are Earth’s natural beauty. Flowers comfort me. ❤

The art show started off quietly, but as the evening went on…

IMG_1494

…it picked up and was packed! It turned into a house party environment with musicians performing and people dancing. It was very fun. 🙂

At the very end of the night, I sold a ring! I was pleasantly surprised. The entire night was a lot of fun, and several friends of mine came through to see my work and show their support. I was touched! ❤

This was a big deal to me because I have wanted to showcase my art at Art Hop for a long time! I set up my table display on my own and it’s just how I hoped it would look. So I feel really happy that I accomplished a long-time goal!

Have a happy weekend! See you next time!

Pink Rose of California

IMG_0068

Do you have certain things you just feel you must do? If you don’t, something feels off?

Example: I begin and end my week with getting an iced mocha at Yellow Mug coffee before going to work in the morning. I’m a huge Starbucks person, trust me, but I have to change it up now and then! The rest of the week, I’m fully dedicated to Starbucks. 😉

So Monday and Friday mornings, this is how I seal my week. If I don’t, something feels off in the universe. Isn’t that a pretty iced mocha, pictured above?

That was Friday – now let’s get into how the weekend went, fashion-wise and otherwise!

You can see these new super-bright, crocheted roses are a new fashion accessory I’ve added! I purchased these off of Etsy, as I was looking for some crocheted flowers to add to my outfits. You can check out the shop here! These were well worth the wait in the mail, as they came all the way from Bulgaria to California. I glued alligator clips to the back so I can easily pin them onto my tops.

My sister crochets, and she offered to make me some red rose crocheted flowers with leaves. I went to Barnes & Noble last night and read through some knitting and crochet magazines…I ended up really confused, haha. I will just let her make some for me.

Have you guys ever noticed the ever-present dent on that water drainage pipe thing that winds up in most of my photos? There on the far lower right?

Let’s address that.

Months and months ago, I totally clipped it when I was pulling into the driveway. I had the music up in my car, all happily oblivious and I pulled in and BLAM!!! Did I do that…? *Steve Urkel voice*

Forget the drainage pipe – how was Jude? (My Dodge Challenger). I had a scrape on it and managed to get it out on my own, fortunately. But yes, this is why I park very far away from other cars. Challengers have a very loooong front end, okay?!

Like the new shoes? They go really well with my tights! They’re from Forever21. ❤

New items in my Etsy shop!!! I’ve been on a roll making new, in-your-face statement rings. I love how these turned out!

IMG_0092

Last but not least, you never know when you’ll come across some beautiful artwork! I was seriously craving falafel on Friday night, so I got takeout. It was about twenty minutes before closing, so no one else was in there. I asked the guy working if I could take a photo, and he said sure. 🙂

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

‘Til next time! See ya! ❤

Alright, it’s not that adrenaline-fueled, but I do have some exciting news! I know I mentioned in my last post that I sold my first greeting card. It’s heading to Texas and as you can see from the above picture, I was all smiles about it and had to capture my glee on camera.

Apart from that, I’ve successfully made some new rings that I’m super excited to share!

The one on the left is my absolute favorite EVER. The one on the right is one I made for Valentine’s Day and both rings are in my Etsy shop as of now! Also, I added international shipping to my shop, finally. ❤

Can you tell I’m a little in love with this one? It’s definitely not for the faint of heart and calling it a statement ring almost seems like an understatement (haha). Nevertheless, I can’t get enough of it!

IMG_9267

This is actually the original one I made for myself. I was able to go about my work day and type like normal, much to the astonishment of my co-workers…

IMG_9293Let’s throw in today’s outfit while we’re at it! I wore my favorite sweater dress.

It was a good week with a lot of creativity flowing. ❤ I always love when I get new ideas and jot them down on paper. That’s why I always keep a small notebook in my purse.

How was everyone’s week? I hope it was good for you all. 🙂

See ya! ❤

Art Overload!

Exciting news!!!

My dream came true, and I was given the opportunity to display my jewelry in a store! It’s being displayed at a patio furniture store called The Patio Place here in my city. I feel super fortunate to have been given the chance to do this!

It was a fun new experience for me, because I had to come up with my own consignment agreement (which I had no clue what that was), and after lots of research, I came up with my own, and myself and the owner signed off on it.

And here it is in the store! Words can’t express how exciting this is to me…I’ve always wanted my jewelry displayed somewhere! ❤ It really goes to show that if you believe in yourself and work hard, it pays off sometimes unexpectedly!

IMG_6765

As you can see, I had to mark the occasion with one big, cheesy smile and a thumbs up! Hahaha! 😀

Moving along to other artsy things, I came across sheets of wood in my garage. I found a square one, which I plan to paint either a beach or mountain scene on it, but this sliver of a wood piece I drew a silhouette of the Taj Mahal on. Not bad for my first try at painting on wood, I think! I just need better brushes.

Another piece of art I did recently was this. I feel most comfortable using Prisma color pencils, and they’re my favorite medium. I love blending and layering color upon color. This is “Sunset Over Madera County.” It appears as a pretty scenic view of a sunset, but for me it’s a personal piece with a lot of symbolism, meant as my own expression of inner closure towards someone very dear to me. Heartbreak, basically. 😛 That’s the beauty of art, isn’t it? It can appear so simple to an onlooker, yet have a deeper meaning to the artist. ❤ I tend to struggle to express my emotions at times, but art allows me to.

I love this quote and wanted to share it!

I hope everyone is having a fantastic week! ❤ I always feel great when I create a lot of artwork. I can’t imagine my life without it. Whatever your passion in life is – go for it! It makes a huge difference in our well being, I can promise you that. Have a great Wednesday!

Bow Tie

IMG_6530

This is another lovely purchase I made from Tracy at The Tote Trove! I’m donning lots of red today, so I thought this outfit would work perfectly with this adorable, felt collar necklace with a sequin bow in the middle. You can find other lovely necklaces in her Etsy shop!

I feel like this necklace makes my entire outfit. I’m just wearing a plain cotton T-shirt dress, and it totally jazzes it up and gives it such a quirky vibe!

I paired it with this cameo ring I made, but I can only take credit for gluing a ring-back on it! It’s a very antique brooch that was given to me from a family friend in Maine, but I never wear brooches, so I turned it into a ring. 🙂

That’s it for today! Enjoying the outdoors, sitting on a patio outside Starbucks now while typing up this blog post and soaking up the beautiful weather before it turns to 109 degrees this weekend! I wish I was kidding, but that’s the actual expected temperature! Ugh!

Happy Thursday!

Jewelry Storage!

I was looking around my bathroom today, and noticed my heaps of bracelets and the rings I have displayed on my counter. I decided to take them outside and get some photos…the colors are so pretty, and I wanted to share how I store my jewelry as well! 🙂

Not long ago, my mom gave me the idea to use ice trays to store my rings in. Best idea ever, and I do know it’s a popular way to store rings (now I know, that is). This is probably half of my ring collection…I have much, much more, haha.

Using ice trays to put your rings in is seriously a genius idea, and especially if you own gigantic rings like I do. 🙂

A cool but not-as-organized way to store your bracelets is to simply dump them all into a bowl. That’s exactly what I did, and while it’s not as easy to retrieve a bracelet from it, it looks pretty. Hahaha! It’s clear to see I love gold-colored jewelry, as it pairs really nicely with my skin tone. AB rhinestones are my favorite thing in the world…all those colors when the light hits it! ❤

Does anyone have creative ways they store their jewelry?

Have a happy Wednesday!

Butterfly

tumblr_mxnn56M53I1s24m5zo1_400

I’ve always loved butterflies, and as you can see from my outfit, I really incorporated my love for butterflies into my ensemble…

IMG_6276

I’m technically wearing bugs. I randomly went to Barnes & Noble later that night, read through some artsy magazines and got ideas for jewelry-making…it was a fun and relaxing way to spend the evening! I’m so wild, aren’t I? I’ve been in a more-than-usual creative mood, so I needed some fresh, out-of-the-box ideas…

necklace

…which led to THIS!!! I kept my seashell-fascination going and made a necklace this time. It was really fun staying up late to make this thing; there’s something I love about late-night, spur-of-the-moment craft projects. I wasn’t sure where it was going at first, but I kept at it and ultimately loved the outcome! ❤ I’ll be putting this one up in my Etsy shop on Monday.

Back to my outfit now: simple two-toned green ensemble. I really love green in general, and I feel it’s a color that flatters my complexion. 🙂

So far, it’s been a relaxing weekend and I’ve been going for evening walks and listening to music. Socializing too, of course…all that jazz. Enjoy your weekend!!! ❤
