The Best Things

I’ll just start off by saying this is one of my FAVORITE OUTFITS I’ve EVER put together (accessories included)!!! ❤️

Why? Because it’s SO RANDOM. Let’s take a closer look:

I have a My Little Pony necklace on and I’m sporting my new, custom-made Gene Simmons purse. I’m living it, breathing it, and loving it right now.

My Little Pony and Gene Simmons. ❤️ It’s such a random pairing, and I love bringing together things from opposite ends of the spectrum that seem to not make sense as a pair, tying it all together with a bow like a happy little outfit family. And it goes to show, that opposites can indeed work well together.

After taking these photos, a little while later I went to get my drive-thru Starbucks iced mocha and go for a walk. On these solo walks I’ve had plenty of time to think about life, and my mind wandered back to what my ultimate “favorite outfit ever AND best day ever” has been and the good memories attached to it.

It’d be this little red number (I call it the Kiss the Go-Goat Dress ), which I wore on September 13th, 2019 (Friday the 13th in fact, forever immortalized into a “Best Day Ever” for me:

The day I saw Ghost play live in concert in Bakersfield. ❤️ Seeing that I won’t be attending any concerts this year (due to COVID-19), I’ve been daydreaming about this last concert I went to.

I’ll always smile back on that concert and it still gives me the warm, fuzzy feelings. It was the first concert I ever went to by myself, so it was truly special and felt magical, along with the red dress I modified myself to get those groovy bell sleeves. I wrote this in my journal at the time:

✨ “There’s something magical about the moment the curtains part, you see your favorite band onstage and the lights and music take over your senses, surrounded by a sea of people who feel the same exhilaration you’re feeling. I sat there in my red dress, my eyes locked on the stage, completely enamored. I’ve seen them perform three times now, but there was something extra magical about that concert. Maybe because I was 100 miles away from home by myself seeing them play live, or that they were performing their two new songs for the first time live, or that it was the first concert kicking off the start of their tour. I think it was all of it combined that made it so magical.”

These are the things I thought of as I took my walk, sipping my iced mocha with My Little Pony around my neck and Gene Simmons hanging off my shoulder. I looked around at the empty, silent street in both directions. The beginning of a new summer shimmered in the early evening air. I nonchalantly kicked a pebble on the sidewalk with a dopey grin on my face, remembering that epic September evening, Friday the 13th, 2019.

Perhaps it’s the sudden spike of COVID-19 cases skyrocketing in Fresno, or realizing it’s almost half way through the year already that’s making me reflect on happier things, like my best day ever, and the joys of a favorite outfit.

My Little Pony and Gene make any day better, too. ❤️

‘Til next time!!

Desert Time

Not to be confused with dessert time, but it also applies to this post just the same because of my delicious FRAPPUCINO. ☕️💕

I googled whether or not the area of California I live in is considered somewhat of a desert and I learned: “The Central Valley has a hot Mediterranean climate in the north; the southerly parts of the region are dry and categorized as desert.” Well, I live in the CENTRAL Central Valley, so we get the best of both worlds: lush vegetation AND desert-like regions, depending on the time of year! 🌴🌺

Right now it’s very dry, and I love that. I’m drawn to the desert look, and I had the pleasure of walking around this beautiful new housing development called Tesoro Viejo on the outskirts of Fresno, equipped with a super cool coffee shop I’ve been to before and was excited to go back to with my friend!! This is my first time going to sit on a patio somewhere since the quarantine began, so I was quite happy. ☕️

I definitely frolicked around and I looked just like this happy puppy

This coffee shop, called Axis, is amazing with a beautiful patio area. I loved the see-through banners placed on the fence (my view from the table).

I definitely felt like I was in a desert, when I happened upon these little green bushes spaced out between each other on the ground. Something about the warm, dirt tones of a desert landscape ignites the imagination for me!

This fun skirt is actually my mom’s, handed down to me. I had it cut (it used to be ankle length) and hemmed. Yeah! 💜💕 I’m glad I wore this bright skirt, as it stood out against the scenery today.

See ya next time!

The Wanderers

Ahoy!! ❤️

I brought my new-and-improved tripod with me to the park. Boooooooooooooooooom

It was such a lovely day! I decided, let me pack up my purse with my new mini-tripod, get something to drink to bring along, and gooooooo…

I’ve been wanting new backdrops for my outfit photos, so I was hopeful I’d find somewhere at the park to set the tripod on and snap away. It was a little tricky at first; any time I thought I found the right cement table for it, there would be a couple nearby romantically gazing at each other and deep in their own private conversation, in which I didn’t want to disturb the lovey-dovey ambiance with my posing in front of a timed-camera nearby. So on I went, in search of the right spot.

And I found it!

Off ahead, I spotted a patch of trees, like a little tree island. All the tables nearby were empty, so I could easily set up my little tripod and get some outfit photos.

I wore my Ghost, Opus Eponymous album shirt with a bright, fun skirt. Definitely comfortable for wandering on a long walk!

Not a bad photo after getting chased by a bee (I think it thought my hair clips were real).

I love, love, love this skirt so much; I’d provide a link to where you could buy it, but it’s currently unavailable on Amazon now. Boo!

After my time at the park, I took yet another short drive out of the city and into the flat lands. Winds were coming in strong by that time and it turned the landscape dusty, which made for some great snapshots. I pulled off to the side of the road and got out!

This was definitely the best trip out here because two really interesting things happened: 1) I mentioned in my last post that I saw a raven perched on a fence, and I saw yet again a raven perched on a fence in the same area as I did last time!!! Maybe it hangs out there a lot? It seemed to be enjoying the sunset.

Annnnnnd… 2) I saw a COYOTE, literally two seconds after seeing the raven! It was wandering alongside a vineyard as I drove past it. It was really cute; I live in the city, so seeing a coyote is pretty dang exciting for me.

I started thinking: what do us three have in common? The raven, the coyote, and little ol’ me?

Technically, we were all doing the same thing in a way. I’d previously been wandering around a big park. The coyote was wandering around a vineyard. The raven was admiring the sunset – something I was doing when I pulled off to take pictures.

So what did I learn from this?

Yeah, you thought I was going to drop something all heavy and philosophical didn’t you. Truth is, I can’t really come up with a profound meaning behind it, but somehow I FELT like there was some kind of profound meaning behind it. I can only describe it as, a strong sense of connectedness… 💜

Here’s to raven and coyote sightings – preferably coyote sightings from a distance, as I don’t want to become a coyote’s new chew toy.

See ya next time!!!

A Picnic for One is a Picnic For Fun

Hey, y’all!! 💐 💕🌸

I finally fulfilled my dream of taking myself on a picnic. In this time of practicing social distancing, what a better way to practice it than by going on a solo picnic?! But honestly, I’ve wanted to do this for a long time, way before the Corona days.

First!!! Two outfits from this past week. 😃

Unicorn necklace made by the talented Tracy over at The Tote Trove!

I’m really into hair pom-poms lately. They’re just so funnnnn. 💜 Tee heeee…

So!!!!!! One of my favorite stores ever, World Market, has for awhile been temporarily closed like so many other places due to COVID-19. That’s my go-to place for foreign treats, and I’ve missed it!

It made me think about trying an international snack box. However, I didn’t want to commit to a subscription service to try some (just something I could treat myself to every so often, not monthly). Much to my happy surprise, I found snack boxes you could purchase individually for a great price on Amazon! I picked from the Amazon’s Choice snack boxes because they had great reviews. 👍🏽

I decided on the Turkish snack box for my first one (you can find it here on Amazon). I was really excited because I have always wanted to try Turkish sweets/snacks. I’ve tried a few so far, and they’re delicious! You get a lot in the box, so it’ll last a long time.

I took one of the snacks with me for my picnic (the brownie) as a dessert. 💕 Picnic time!!!

Amaaaaazing cherry brownie!!! 💕🍒

So yes, it was a grand ol’ time, and I went for a walk afterwards. I haven’t been on a picnic in forever!! Good times. ❤️

See ya next time!!

Cake Walk

Hello there!!! 💕

Ohhhhh how I love hot pink. 💖 I wore this soft blazer over a delft blue printed romper on a walk this past weekend!

I want to eventually get a couple more blazers in different colors (you can find these bad boys over on Amazon). They are super soft and comfortable! 😀 I highly recommend.

And here we have some new digital art! I created this after being inspired by my stargazing adventures in my backyard last week, using my Sky Guide app to locate things in space. I’ve always been interested in the Andromeda galaxy, so I named this one Visions of Andromeda. ⭐️💜

Now, join me on my walk!

This walk was different. There was something missing, and that was: my friend Sarah. She moved to South Carolina on Saturday; my walks are continuing, only solo now. It’s funny because I was always used to going for walks by myself, but during the quarantine, Sarah and I became walking buddies and we had a blast (even dancing around and skipping on our walks). 💜

So now I’m adjusting to solo walks again. That’s okay though, because I got back into it pretty quick!! I’ve always been blessed with the unfailing ability to entertain myself quite easily. Evidence: I played somewhat of a game in which I took photos of other solo things in nature along my route:

You have a street light, a twig and a rock. Fun fact, when I was a kid, I used to take photos of street lights and would name them. If you really look at street lights, most of them look different from each other. As a kid, I felt like they each had their own personalities, so I’d name them accordingly.

I liked this because it looked like a headstone. It has something to do with the street lights, however! Pretty cool. 💚

So in a nutshell, I remembered how much I love solo walks and how intrigued I am with everything. And hey, you’re never alone when you’re GETTING HARASSED BY BEES.

(Must bee my beehive hairdo.) 🐝

You got the walk – now for the cake!! I made my very first cake from scratch! I’m happy with how it turned out (even though the consistency was a bit thicker than cakes normally are…oh well!).

I got all fancy and drew little white roses around it. I’ve mastered my signature sugar cookies, but I wanted to try a cake. Not too bad for a first-timer! 👍🏽

See ya next time!!

Aquarium Head and House Tour

Hi!! 💕

What happens when I wear a completely neutral-colored ensemble??? *gasp!* I make sure there’s a splash of color somewhere – in this case, it was on my feet (and hair clips):

RHINESTONE LEGS
fishy fishaaaaay

As I’m sure you GUESSED…the fish are iron-on patches, transformed into hair clips. My head was basically an aquarium for a day. Thanks for all that you have, Joann Fabric! 😀 Where would I be without you? Where else would I have been inspired to put fish in my hair?

So!!! Ever since I put up my Christmas tree last weekend, I thought it would be fun to do a little house tour, since I haven’t done one in awhile. I’ve changed things around since, and why not showcase some of my favorite things/areas around the house?

The first and last thing I see when I flip on/off my bedside lamp is a photo of an East German soldier passing a carnation through a crack in the Berlin Wall (my favorite photo of all time).

James Cagney and Jean Harlow looking too-cool-for-school on my wall.

A newspaper photo from the Iraq War that I’ve kept since 2004. I saw it in the paper as a teenager and cut it out; it really spoke to me.

This is literally how I store my butterfly hairclips, hahaha! 💜

Hope you enjoyed a glimpse of my colorful little world! 😀

See you next time!!

All About That Balance

IMG_3974

Ahoy!

I bring to you, some truly interesting outfits I wore this week. Wearing hair clips from Sally Beauty Supply that the box states is for children, and risk-taking pattern mixing?

‘TWAS NOT A DULL WEEK…

IMG_3979

Aight, so the heart hair clips are from Sally Beauty Supply as I mentioned, and the choker I paired with it collectively just screams: Oh 90’s, Where Art Thou?

IMG_3973

IMG_3981

IMG_3983

The choker necklace, I have no idea where it is from. My sister gave me it because she said she didn’t like how it looked on her. Score for me – I love it! It’s such an unusual choker…I don’t think I’ve ever seen one like it.

IMG_3995

It’s a Friday so I thought why not; let’s pair a bird-printed top with a floral skirt. Because I have only one life to live and I’m going to live it well. At first hesitant, I then decided to give it a go.

IMG_3996

IMG_3993

IMG_3998

YET SOMEHOW…IT WORKED.

With the dark blues and light blues, it comes together gloriously in an explosion of irony. Birds and flowers, unite. Mixed prints, unite. I wore my black T-strap flats with the outfit, which tied it all together.

A lady this morning at the café I go to said I looked “fun” today.

YESSS!

Fun is what I aim for. I like my outfits to be fun and playful, so it was a success.

In other news, it was a good week and seemed to go by really fast. I blinked and it was suddenly Friday. Outside of work, I’ve been drawing and reading, even more so…

IMG_3948

I made a pretty new drawing, and I’m going to get it framed and take it with me to my next art showcase, which will be September 1st! I love the colors I went with…I wasn’t sure what kind of colors I wanted initially, but I just thought, the brighter the better. Very pleased with the outcome. ♥

As for reading, I’m only a chapter away from finishing No Easy Day, an autobiography of a Navy SEAL. This is my third SEAL book and I love it just as much as the others I’ve read.

It’s the dichotomy. I love extremely girly things, but I need a balance, and that’s where the testosterone-fueled, jumping-out-of-helicopters, action-packed genre of books I enjoy comes in.

It’s like the yin and yang. Or YANG AND YIN?

This leads me to an observation. My fascination with things totally opposite of me isn’t just with books. Come to think of it, if I reflect on my very short list of guys I have gone out with in the past: one was super logical/technical-minded, and another was in law enforcement and really loved guns, and very much was a logical thinker.

In other words, polar opposite from me.

SEE WHAT I MEAN?

If I (ever?) at some point feel like dating again in the years ahead, perhaps I should lean towards dating a fellow artist, or something along those lines? The thing is, I enjoy learning about someone who is totally different than me. I still am not sure if the whole opposites attract is good or bad when it comes to the romantic spectrum. What do you all think? Enlighten me.

I tend to gravitate towards the more left-brained I suppose, to offset my blissfully creative albeit scattered right-brain. You know I’m all about the artsy life…

movie

Or more accurately for me, a Dodge.

See ya!!! ♥

Funny Facts

IMG_3758

Hi!!!

Is it really the end of July? I’m truly stunned…it feels like this year is a blur and is going by way too fast. But, what can you do?

One thing you can do is buy new hair clips. Not like that will aid in slowing down time or anything, but hey, it’ll add a little pep to your look…

IMG_3757

I love this outfit because it’s quite quirky. The pink lace with the beige wrap skirt looks unusual, in an interesting way!

IMG_3760

IMG_3762

IMG_3765

The skirt is secondhand and the top, I bought on eBay! 🙂 The hair clips, I bought on Etsy. They are fun and I’m loving the whole double-hair-clip look; it has a playful vibe.

So, reading several blogs here on WordPress, I’ve seen a few posts where people have shared facts about themselves, just for fun so their readers can get to know them better. I thought it would be fun to do this, so I came up with 10!!!

Here we go. 🙂

#1.  I love reading (which, if you’ve followed my blog long enough, you know that!) More specifically though, my two favorite genres are military and true crime. My favorite military book is American Sniper by Chris Kyle and my favorite true crime book is Zodiac by Robert Graysmith (it’s about the Zodiac killer, and it’s terrifying).

Currently, I’m reading this! And it’s GOOD.

IMG_3768

#2. I can’t stand anything with caramel, or anything caramel-flavored.

#3. I’m a big fan of ASMR videos.

I really love that ASMR in general has finally been given a name in the last few years!

#4. I’m terrified of blimps.

You know, like the Good Year blimp…those things. 😦

#5. I’m also terrified of E.T.

I’m serious. I still can’t watch the movie again!!! The opening scene is the scariest thing I’ve ever witnessed and I had recurring nightmares as a child about E.T.  I was so scared he was going to get me at night. If I see anything that is E.T.-related, I get chills to this day!

Aaaaand I just imagined E.T. piloting a blimp. FEAR FUSION.

#6. I’m a pescetarian.

Meaning, the only meat I eat is fish. 🙂

#7. I’ve never been on an airplane, but I’ve been on an Army helicopter.

And everyone asks me, “you’re scared of airplanes, yet you rode in a military helicopter with the doors open, and that was fine…?”

#8. If I could visit any area in the entire world, it’d be the Persian Gulf.

Specifically, the United Arab Emirates. There’s just something mysterious and enchanting about the geography of that part of the world that speaks to me. ♥

1

#9. My favorite candy is Swedish Fish.

#10. I’ve never rode on a horse, but I’ve rode on a camel once.

Hope you enjoyed these random (and very true) facts about me. It was fun to write, I must admit!

Until Next Time! ♥

The Joys of Awkwardhood

IMG_3587

Howdaaaay!

I look dang proud of myself in that picture and it fits so perfectly with the blog post title! LOOOOOOOOOOOL!

This is meant to be a funny post, so I hope you enjoy. 😉

36921037_10216244264720314_3143308258375106560_n

First off, I bought a laptop keyboard cover! Isn’t it cute? ♥

Sometimes now, I’ll literally just sit and stare at my keyboard when I should actually be typing instead. It’s soooo pretty.

That kinda leads straight into the topic today! Do you ever feel awkward? Of course; I’m sure everyone does at some point. I can be rather awkward when it comes to holding conversations, or creeping people out when I  unintentionally stare at things/people! But I never let that stop me from trying. 🙂

I think it’s very true that when you get older (for some people), you lose a lot of the self-consciousness you once had in your younger years. Because now I seem to hold the awkwardness high and proudly like a big, waving flag in the wind…

flag-starwars

Just like C3PO at the pod race on Tatooine

I’m not sure what changed, but my self-consciousness really reduced over time. Of course, we will always have self-conscious moments, but now if I do something or say something that I feel is a bit awkward, I actually find it hilarious…and kind of fun, honestly.

still

“Hey guys! Whoa, Big Gulps huh? Alright…welp, see ya later!”

Remember this scene from Dumb and Dumber?? I feel this is the best and most accurate depiction of some of my conversations with people. 😀 Hahaha!

IMG_3580

So to anyone who feels awkward, and sees it as a bad thing, I highly encourage you to roll around in it rather than try to hide it. Wear it like a cape, or a tiara…or both!

Hey, like my skirt? It’s another thrift find!

IMG_3582

IMG_3577

IMG_3586

IMG_3579

This is a really fun skirt and I feel like I’ll wear it a lot! I don’t wear much blue so it’ll be fun to pair other colors with it. 😀

IMG_3590

IMG_3589

And lastly, my daisy headband…which I don’t feel I wear as much as the others. I have made so many headbands, it’s nuts…

IMG_3419

EVIDENCE. I think I’ll take a loooong break from making any new headbands (don’t hold me to that, though) and instead I think I’ll make a new ring for myself. Not to put on Etsy, but one just for moi!

I think worms are really cute, so I’m going to make myself a cute worm statement ring. With hearts, in fact.

FUZZY hearts.

So yes, the worm ring is in the making (that sounds too much like ‘ring worm’ – YIKES!)

See ya next time!

Golden Hour

IMG_3323

Ahh…summer evenings. ♥

There really is something lovely about golden hour, especially in the summer. Despite how hot it was here (a little over 100 degrees or so), I still enjoyed sitting out in my backyard on Saturday evening before I made the short drive to Barnes & Noble later on.

Out here, I get to hear all kinds of things. Mostly the rustle of leaves from the gigantic tree that shades the backyard, and then the hum from the cars on the freeway. It’s a perfect blend of nature and city life. ♥

IMG_3346

Just sitting out in my backyard for a little while feels like a full recharge. As much as I enjoy being out and about, I definitely enjoy moments of complete solitude as well. My tiny backyard feels like a secluded corner of the world where I can admire the greenery and be alone with my thoughts. 🙂

IMG_3326

My outfit, incidentally, went along fittingly with golden hour on Saturday evening!!!

This is probably my favorite go-to wrap dress. It’s light, comfortable, and simple! I love the color so much. It’s from Forever 21.

IMG_3327

Paired with a bow, it makes for a very retro-casual look. And perfect for frolicking around the bookstore, no doubt!

IMG_3335

IMG_3336

I made this bangle bracelet awhile back. ♥

IMG_3319

I got my nails redone!!! This time, much much shorter (well, to me they are short compared to what I previously have had!). I decided to be a risk taker and let the manicurist create whatever design she wanted. Thus, I ended up with an artsy, almost animal-like print on my nails. It’s very different for me, but I love it!

IMG_3332

IMG_3334

Golden hour…how I love you!!! I managed to take these outfit photos at just the right time, no?

So after this, I went to Barnes & Noble. There’s nothing like ordering a cold drink at the café there and browsing through the store aimlessly, stopping to look at books that catch your eye…

IMG_3349

Like this!!!

By the end of the evening, I looked through books about unicorn-inspired food, wolves, and serial killers. A pretty strange mashup but, rather interesting reads nonetheless.

My week has started really nicely! I had a conversation with one of the regulars I see at my favorite coffee shop before work today, and we were discussing creativity. He was talking about how he has learned to appreciate art much more as he’s gotten older, and that ‘creative people make the world a prettier place’.

I love that! ♥ How inspiring!

See ya next time! 😉
