The Phantom of the Park & Other Things

Hey, all!!! I hope you are healthy and well! πŸ’œ

This past week, given the shelter-in-place policy enforced in my city due to COVID-19, I’ve had an abundance of time at home to create some new artwork, read, watch movies, and tinker around with the clothing in my closet. I created a new bow brooch by using some extra fabric ribbon I had on hand, and attached it to a vintage brooch I own. A nice addition to my beige lace top!

Believe it or not, the black dress is an old Xhilaration dress from Target I’ve had for years. Now it looks totally different!

I really love how old-fashion this dress looks with the modifications I made to it! It proves that all it takes is some accessorizing to totally change the look.

I’ve always loved psychedelic art, so I finally created one of my own. πŸ˜ƒ I titled it: Magical Mystery Dreams (the title was inspired by Magical Mystery Tour (1967) by the Beatles, which is my favorite album of theirs and it paired well while drawing this). πŸ’œ

Last but certainly not least!!! A few weeks ago, I was happy to get my copy of Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park (1978). You can hardly find a copy of it to buy online, so it’s truly a miracle I even own it!

Backstory: This was a made-for-television film that aired around Halloween of 1978. Anything I read about it said it was “super cheesy” and “really out-there”, which made me even more ecstatic to watch it and run to it with open arms. Naturally, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!!!!!

Plot: Kiss battles an evil inventor who has plans for destruction at a California amusement park.

It takes place at Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA (around 3 hours away from where I live – I’ve driven through the area countless times going to L.A.). The acting is adorable and there are a lot of scenes with Kiss playing their songs live in concert. How could I not love it?!

I also love it because, since it was transferred from an original VHS recording to DVD, it’s like watching it through a dream lens. It gives the film a high saturation color-wise and an imperfect quality, which I actually prefer. Visually, it’s like remembering parts of a dream you had, is how I’d best describe it.

I hope you all stay healthy, positive and find creative ways to spend your time as much of the world is on lockdown, it seems. ❀️ Let me know in the comments if you’ve been doing anything interesting!

See you next time!! 🌼

Spring with a Side of Rain

Hey hey!!! 🌸🌼

Ahhh, spring. My favorite season! When I can happily kiss winter goodbye and welcome the blooming blossom trees that look like snow when the petals fall, longer days, walks, and overall more comfortable temperatures. So what happened today before I took these photos?

It rained.

It was just so funny, since I’ve been in such a spring mood, I’m wearing my most spring-like dress, and it POURED.

A rainy Starbucks patio.

It was actually quite fun to watch the storm roll in. Rain is rare here, so it’s a sight to see!!

Some highlights as of lately:

  • I’ve gotten more work for my freelance job (very good news!!!)
  • I had a table set up at Art Hop last Thursday! It was a lot of fun. The weather was warm, it was a relaxing evening downtown, and I had a couple of people buy my homemade cookies and chocolates! πŸͺ🍫
  • I tried the new Iced Golden Ginger Drink at Starbucks, and it’s sooo good. I enjoyed the first one I bought sitting by a pool with my friend at her apartment complex. It was a nice 80 degrees that day!
  • I picked up a new hobby: bird watching. I have binoculars and a huge tree with plenty of birds in it in my backyard, so it’s a fun thing to do on a late afternoon when I have time! Then I try to figure out what kind of birds they are with a little Google searching.

New spring dresses. I’m so excited to wear them!! πŸ’œ

I love spring!!! πŸŒΈπŸŒΌπŸ’• Can’t you tell?

See you next time!

Feeling Groovy

Hey, all!! πŸ’œ

I’m so happy to showcase this groovy little dress that my friend found for me at Goodwill!! Isn’t it a dream? 😍 And it’s super comfortable, too!

How could I not be in a blissful mood wearing this dress?? The weather was so beautiful and warm (80 degrees today!) so I felt like I was floating on a cloud of joy all day. In the spirit of the sixties, I listened to one of my favorite songs from that time period, Daydream Believer by The Monkees, as I drove to get some coffee and work done.

I love dresses from the sixties and seventies so much…I’ve always gravitated towards them and they just call to me. You know how there are soul friends, soul mates, etc? Well, clothing from the sixties and seventies are my soul clothes. ❀️

See you next time!! 🌸🌼

I Hope I Don’t Wear the Album Out

Greetings!! πŸ’™

There’s nothing quite like discovering an album that has been around your entire life, but you didn’t know it existed, and you totally fall in love with it. Am I right?????

Thanks to my recent interest in Kiss (mainly their 1970’s discography), I discovered their solo albums, which led me to dreamy Ace Frehley’s 1978 solo album.

The album is groovy, sultry, gritty, cosmic, yet sweet, like eating strawberries with whipped cream on a summer’s day. New York Groove and Ozone are my favorites, but I truly love the entirety of the album from start to finish! ❀️ The unexpected bonus was the super groovy photo print when I opened the CD cover – I love it!

Onto my outfit!! I blend into my house! Cool, huh?

The blouse was formerly a dress that didn’t fit me. I cut it into a shirt length, then used the excess cloth to tie it at the waist (and hide the SLOPPY WAY I CUT IT). All-in-all I’m happy with how it turned out!

See ya next time!!

Valentine’s Day, Pizza and Chocolate Edition

Happy Valentine’s Day!! πŸ’•

I don’t know how you feel about Valentine’s Day, but for me, it’s one of my favorite holidays.

Why, you ask????

Solely because I let myself go pizza and chocolate crazy!!!!!!! πŸ•πŸ«

And here we have my special Valentine’s Day outfit. The dress paired well with my new penny loafers I purchased on eBay! I have always wanted a pair of penny loafers.

Homemade chocolates, made by me! πŸ’•

However you spent your Valentine’s Day – I hope it was a great one!! ❀️

See ya next time!

Hello Kitty Soda and KISS

Howdy!!

I typically am not a soda drinker, but occasionally I will indulge and have one. I did just that, late last night, living on the wild side and opening up a bottle of Hello Kitty strawberry soda to get the weekend started!! Yay.

I really love this outfit…and the socks!! In fact, I love this outfit so much, and I find it so endearing, that I just might propose to myself on Valentine’s Day.

I found my KISS album, and this made me so happy. It’ll be playing in my car all weekend! YEEEAH! ❀️

See ya next time! πŸ’œ

Are These Hearts Big Enough?

They could be bigger. BUT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think they are the perfect size to balance my gigantic hair. It’s February, a.k.a Valentine’s month, SO IT’S ON! Let the pinks, reds, and hearts fly! πŸ’•β€οΈ

I made these bad boys (the heart clips). I have another pair in red, too! They bring me great joy.Β

This past week, I successfully made chocolates – something I’ve been wanting to do for a LONG time. I’m experienced with baking sugar cookies (my signature ones I’ve made throughout the years with edible glitter, pearls and flowers).

But chocolates are new to me, and they came out way better than I hoped for! I’m going to make some more this week as gifts to a couple of friends. πŸ˜„

eeeeeeeeeeee!!! Don’t they look so cute? The colors!!! The chocolate ones are semi-sweet. The pink ones are made out of candy melts. I’m super excited to experiment with baby blue, yellow, and lavender. Of course, I’m even more excited to present these to my friends and see what they think! 😍

See ya next time!
