Trip to the Central Coast

Thursday and Friday, I went with a girl friend of mine to San Simeon, Morro Bay, and lastly, Pismo Beach! It was just a for-fun kind of trip, and the weather was gorgeous. I managed to get some good photos to document my trip…

Hotel room where we stayed, right along the beach. 🙂

I got up really early, around 6:30, and took a neat photo through the hotel curtain overlooking the beach. It came out pretty cool, in my opinion.

There was an awesome walking trail along the coast in Cambria, pictured above.

Awesome cave in Pismo Beach. I hurried to take the photo and get out because I was fearful that a huge wave would splash in there while I was in it, hahaha.

I saw this poster in Morro Bay and just loved it! Picture of a young woman who was a champion skateboarder in San Diego, 1965. I love the retro look!

Hotel room selfie. 😛

The weather was really lovely and warm, although I got a sunburn, haha! I hope everyone is having a fantastic Saturday! 🙂

Spring is finally here, and what better way to enjoy it than by being outdoors? I did just that a couple of days ago – took a long walk, sipped an iced beverage, and then sketched while sitting on a park bench. Doesn’t get any better than that! This is seriously one of my favorite times of the year. So long winter – hello warm weather. 🙂

I took my sketchbook with me and drew a flower…I prefer focusing on up-close, individual still life objects rather than a full-scale drawing. I think because I love paying attention to detail and capturing shadows and highlights, and essentially just drawing exactly what I see.

I hope to fill up this handy little sketchbook with colorful sketches like this one. I get in this peaceful frame of mind whenever I submerge myself in drawing, and I love it.

Spring, in my opinion, is a time for personal and spiritual growth that coincides with the changing of seasons. I feel like my mood really lifts at this time of year and I have an extra spring in my step, and my creativity flows easier. I hope you all are able to feel this way as well, and happiness flows with ease into your life!

Happy Wednesday!

Hey everyone!

On Friday, I had the pleasure of accompanying a friend to a baby shower she was attending in Red Bluff, CA. That’s like 5 hours north from where I live, so it was quite a drive, and we were staying overnight.

As you can see, I don’t pack much. The oddness of that, as my travel friend pointed out, is that I use so many products to doll myself up, and yet my packing was so minimal. The secret? I pack everything very tight and compactly – hahaha.

The drive was sooooo long and, quite boring on the eyes, to be honest. The scenery was very repetitive and seemed to go on forever. It’s not like driving to Los Angeles (my favorite place!) where the drive is broken up: the long stretch of highway 99, then it changes to the mountainous grapevine after you leave Bakersfield, then it changes to the hustle and bustle of L.A.

Me early in the morning, waiting around for my friend to pick me up and hit the road. 😉

This was the view from the house my friend and I stayed at. Loved how green everything was! It was a little cold with off-and-on rain, though.

We stopped at a store to get some groceries for dinner, and I happened to see this birthday card as I was perusing around aimlessly. I had to take a picture because I loved the message so much. Take it easy. Enjoy the scenery. Go with the flow. Often, we forget to do that! It’s funny, the random places you find inspiration.

It was a really fun trip, with lots of laughs and getting to meet new, fascinating people. I was around a lot of people the entire trip, which was good for me because I’m so used to spending a lot of time by myself. Not to say I don’t hang out with friends, I do, just not for super long. It gave me a boost in social skills, since I tend to get social anxiety very easily.

I hope everyone has had a fantastic weekend! It was good for me to get out of my comfort zone and do something spontaneous and different. Happy Sunday!

Beautiful Spring

With the warm weather and sunny skies today, I really wanted to capture the beauty of spring that’s all around us. 🙂

There’s nothing like spending time outdoors and enjoying the sunshine and warmth on one’s skin.

I really love the dress I’m wearing today! It has an old fashion, prairie-like vibe to it.

Hope everyone is having a lovely Tuesday, wherever you are! 🙂

Out & About

Yesterday was awesome because it was finally warm enough for me to take a nice, long walk through the back end of Woodward Park!

I’m not sure what it is, but I really find the back end of Woodward Park to be the best area. It over looks Madera County and is really flat, getting away from the concrete jungle city limits and out into the countryside.

I have NO idea what kind of bird this is. I had to take a picture, though.

It’s really good to get outside and walk around exploring nature, taking random pictures of whatever happens to grab your attention. I always feel rejuvenated after I do. 🙂

Happy Friday!

Ghostly Images

I had time to spare this morning before having to begin my day, so what else was there to do but take random pictures of myself in semi-eerie lighting?

Seriously though, I really love photography. I love how pictures can set a mood. And since I wore all pastels today, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to take some pics!

I particularly like how the last one turned out. Kind of an eerie, somewhat-ethereal look going on there and my smudged camera lens is to be fully applauded for such a look. I can never seem to get my phone camera lens clean, and anytime light is in the picture, it glows. Thanks, phone!

I’m looking forward to more outdoor pictures…it’s just too cold to stand outside and attempt to take pictures. Can’t wait for spring!

Wintry Skies N’ Earthquakes

Let me start off by saying, last night (or early this morning, as in midnight/1 a.m. hour) was probably the weirdest night ever. Literally couldn’t sleep until well after 2 a.m., because my sleep kept being interrupted by…not dogs barking, not a car alarm…but earthquakes.

Yep, earthquakes. Here in good ol’ Central California, we very rarely feel them only because of our placement away from major fault lines, but it’s not unheard of to feel them if wherever the epicenter is has a good-sized magnitude. The epicenter was apparently near the California-Nevada borderline, but it was felt clearly here. Totally freaked me out, things hanging on the ceiling were swaying…not cool!

Photography time! I’m not a fan of the cold, but I’ve always admired how crisp and blue the sky seems to be in the winter months. Doesn’t the sky just look different when it’s winter? Or, maybe I’m imagining it. I took the opportunity this morning to go out into my front yard and snap some pretty winter photos of the bare branches that are beautiful in their own way…

The winter months feel like they have an eerie stillness to them, which is alluring to me. I especially like to go outside at night (wrapped in a blanket, of course) and gaze up at Orion’s Belt, my favorite winter constellation. I’d really be bored without my Sky Guide app, which entertains me to no end!

Speaking of SPACE STUFF…

My outfit-of-the-day totally ties into this mention of space. I’m donning one of my favorite skirts, which I bought very inexpensively on Amazon!

Me, totally not even looking at the camera…

I loooooooove this skirt. Makes me feel like a space queen or something. I’ve always loved galaxy skirts, and I got this one for around $8 or so through Amazon. Paired with a pale pink sweater and black boots, it has a very funky vibe that I like!

Have a great day everyone! Don’t forget to smile!

Grey Skies

My favorite kind of weather has always been cloudy days. Here in Central California, we got just that recently! It’s typically sunny here, so cloudy days are a nice change of pace.

Cloudy days inspire what kind of music I listen to. I tend to reach for a particular song or specific album on cloudy/rainy days. For me, it’s the album Pisces Iscariot by the Smashing Pumpkins. Not only is it one of my favorite albums by them, it’s also a good rainy day album for me.

Since the weather’s been cooler, I tend to sit outside more often, so the backyard is a nice spot to set up a desk and my laptop. Also snapped some random, spontaneous photography while I was at it.

Hi there.

Random, Fun Outings

These past few days have been a ton of fun – one of them being going up to the mountains, and the other was a trip to the zoo! I managed to snap some photos of both events, so I’ll start with the mountain trip.

My friend Shawn and I were headed up to Shaver Lake, CA and stopped on the side of the road at this vista point, giving a gorgeous view of the surrounding mountains.

Silly me, posing…

Shaver Lake itself was soooooo beautiful, quiet, smelt like it had rained earlier, and nobody was even around since it was late Monday afternoon. It was pretty cold, but I didn’t mind too much. Being out in nature made it all worth it.

It was fun messing around with my camera and taking photos. Awesome day!

Now, Thursday (yesterday) I went to the zoo with my friend Jay…I rarely ever go to the zoo, so it was pretty fascinating to me. The #1 reason I was excited to go there was to see the Red Wolf. Well, there was actually a pack of them, but I managed to get a good photoshoot with one in particular…

Cute little guy…

I managed to squeeze in my outfit of the day…I was clearly in a pink mood! 😉
